Ripped a hole in frame while removing kickstand mount

How screwed am i? From what I can tell all of the welds behind the frame are intact, the area doesn't feel weakened at all. Can I leave it? Slap a small piece of angle iron and JB weld? Get small piece of metal welded over top?

Please, for the love of all that is holy, do NOT JB weld that. JB weld is for small holes and I won't even use it for that. There are much better putty's on the market.

Call a buddy with a welder or find a shop with a welder and have a piece welded in there and painted. Properly done, it will be strong and just fine.

Wellll......I had hoped so but past experience has taught me to never assume......

I've had people seriously consider that as an option.

It's not a hugely structural part of the frame....that said, there's nothing better than having it done right. Good on ya!

The biggest issue I see with that is now the inside of the frame, that is not painted, is exposed to water and other nasties that could cause internal rust you can't see.

there is actually a small hole already drilled toward the back of that area. It must be a drain hole.

I will see what I get quoted to weld it. I can always find a way to kinda cover it to protect it.

the entire area is still welded solid. I tried to tap it to see if it was weakened but I didnt notice anything obvious.

Have a welder grind it down nicely and weld a plate onto it! It can be done, trust me!

I saw someone cut a peice of popcan, rivet it to the top of their piston, and shmear some JB weld on it for good measure... And then it worked.

I was just looking at how I was going to remove the bracket yesterday and I was thinking about how I don't want to leave any unneeded material.

If I get too enthusiastic with the cutoff wheel, I fortunately have a TIG welder sitting about 6 feet away!

I started cutting where you can see the line of the bend on the bracket, do it lower that I did to avoid this. If i went like 1/4 inch lower I would have missed the weld. Just bad luck/ inexperience on my part. Waiting for a quote from local bike shop to get this thing fixed. I think I could ride it anyway, but no reason to halfass it. It shouldnt be a lot to fix that small of a hole.

I had no part in it, told him not to try it, and would have no part in scamming someone ever. When I sell something, I make sure that the buyer knows exactly what they are buying. Sleeping at night is worth more than the few thousand dollars I can make by selling people junk.

Drill some holes above the cut and below the cut and zip tie it up. It provides strength but also flexibility.

I would find someone you know with a MIG welder. It would be a five minute fix with a MIG welder to seal that small of area, without adding ANY plate or extra metal Keep laying small horizontal beads, top and bottom until they meet and you're done. Just my 2 cents... Being a retired pipe welder...

To repair that area, I would use a wire brush to remove the paint and clean the area, then make a patch from similar gauge sheetmetal, then MIG weld it in place.

You could possibly run numerous beads (as suggested) to close it up, but I'd probably make a patch myself. You could also gas weld it if you didn't have access to a MIG, but I would definitely close it up.

... fix it slow, or fix it fast... but never fix it half-fast :O

the fellow above that recommended a patch is correct, as you do need to clean and wire brush the area for any weld to be sound. It doesn't look like the area is even an inch wide, so however you decide to have it fixed, it would be worth doing it right.
