New at forum and riding motorcycle!

Hello all,
I am new at this forum and driving motorcycle as well, I just purchased 2009 ninja 250 at 4600 miles from local person in central New Jersey! She was second owner she has not performed any maintainance.
Here is what I want to do so far, let me know what is more important if what I should be looking at first!

- need new back tire
-I already cleaned and lubed chain
- fuel gauge is not working
- oil change
- antifreeze seems low

Also another thing I notice sometimes when I keep bike low choke and use throttle it turns off? Why would it do it?
From that list if you guys have any thread link please post up so I can work on it, and if someone lives nearby in Central Jersey what is good place to go for tires, I called two places they estimated me $95 and $150 just labor for tire mount if I bring my own tire to shop!

Please help!

Welcome!

I'd say 30-50 for mount balance if they're putting back together.

Change oil and filter. Carbs might need cleaning since it seems like it sat a lot with that mileage.

Welcome and gratz on getting into riding!

Seems you need to have the general maintenance done on the bike as well as a possible carb clean. As for the dying, maybe the idle is set too low and it's as simple as that.

Good luck!

Sounds like your carburetors need some work, contact @ducatiman he's close by on Long Island for your carburetor needs, and other issues.

Add valve adjustment to your list of things to do, odds are it's never been done.

Personally I recommend Shell Rotella synthetic oil. As the bike uses a wet clutch, if you use the wrong oil, it leads the the clutch slipping.

As with any used bike, you should go thru everything, especially the brakes.

As or course my standard greeting

2.ALWAYS Wear protective gear -- ATGATT All The Gear, All The Time -- including a helmet manufactured to the standards set by a government agency.

3.ALWAYS Ride unimpaired by alcohol or other drugs

4.ALWAYS Ride within your own skill limits

5.Be a lifelong learner by taking refresher rider courses, and advanced rider course A.R.C

Just one question. Does that really work, I mean to get the cat away. you just pis? Do you have to pis on it, near it, or just the sound gets the cat away?
