Gas prices bringing people back?

With gas prices hitting all time highs, anyone else see a spike in ninjette interest? Maybe bikes in general?

I know I've been slowly getting back into my little ninjette project for the MPGs.

Bikes do get better MPG.

If more people take up riding, that's more drivers (when they go back to their cars) who will see bikes.

I totally agree. When I go back to driving in my cage after being on the bike I seem to be more aware of bikes on the road.

I've not seen a increase of motorcycles on the road here probably because it has been so cold but as it warms up i do expect to see more bikes.
last I saw I was paying $5.69 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.
and that is the highest gas prices I have ever seen before !
..... and yes it has cut my driving to town down to a minimum....
and we try to do everything in one trip and that is a P.I.T.A. to say the least
but filling the Honda CRV's 11 gal gas tank took over $57.00 last time I filled it!
and it was not empty !!!!!!!
......
I'm thinking of a pellet fired steam boiler and an old truck now ! LOL.
.....
Bob.....

Here the price of regular has been as high as $4.50 a gallon. Currently it’s at $4.00 a gallon. People here normally drive large and lifted four wheel drive trucks but are either car pooling or starting to drive older model compact Toyota and Nissan cars. It’s not as prominent but more and more bikes are staring to be seen as well.
On a side note: Drivers with diesel trucks are hating them because diesel is $1.00 more a gallon than regular gas.

Gas is about $7 in my area. I've seen a few N400s around but mostly electric scooters for rent . Glad I work from home.

You need to get out of Weed, Bob - it's a big scary world out there. You might like it.

Daily/Weekly prices by local area are available right here. Looks like LA is pretty up there:

Keep in mind those are the average prices in that location. So some of the branded stores are going to be somewhat more than that, while some of the off-brand stores are going to be somewhat cheaper than that.

Looks like Redding is a little cheaper than LA, but not by as much as one might guess.

GOOD HEAVONS ! I guess so ! my goodness I guess I keep myself fairly sheltered up here on the mountain and this tiny town ! geez
....
I guess the question is one of at what price will you STOP driving completely ?
....
this is horrendous I hope you realise.... the inflation you have been seeing is minor compared to what it will be when the gas price gets figured into the scheme of things !
when it takes $100 bucks to fill my CRV i am parking it ! LOL
.....
perhaps I should dig out the HHO stuff again and make a vehicle run on water alone eh ???
it wouldn't take long for the expense of a large alternator and a bunch of stainless steel switch plates and other stuff to be paid for at that price....
.....
problem is I haven't figured out a way to do it for the bike....YET....
.....
thanks for the info... Alex...
....
Bob...

My old Fuji 10 speed has been getting a little bit more use lately, just for going around the block to help the neighbor on his busa though. These gas prices make me happy to have a company truck. $186 last fillup, and it's just an F150. Glad I'm not driving anything bigger.

I’m glad that my commute to work is only 10 miles each way. Some people at my work have between a 40 and 60 mile commute each way.

LOL I took my RX4 out for a run today.... still rides hard but it definitely is alot better than it was !
my gas mileage on it was super bad ! something like 6.9 MPG average
and I'm trying to figure that out , that makes no sense at all when the thing is running so lean it stumbles at idle ! but perhaps it hasn't got it's self acclimatized yet...???? I got over 100 miles on it though i would think that should be enough to get it's self all figured out..... but I did notice the bike was faster revving when I got home, about half again as quick as it was before....
but I'ed hate to think it will get that kind of mileage when it's broke in ! ...lol
it's supposed to get 65MPG but I have not seen the dash say that yet it's been in the 40's till today and I filled the tank ....I didn't re set the dash ...maybe I am supposed to do that LOL
it ran great though I had a good long ride about an hours worth and my butt started getting sore so I went home....
I do think I will put on the new spring when it gets here ( if it ever does!)
that bike always impresses me on how it handles for being such a heavy pig
right up there with the Ninja ! very surprising !
max top speed was 80mph and average speed was 50~60 something....
about half the ride was in 4th or 5th gear only hit 6th gear on the straights
and I came home most the way on a dirt road.....(which she handled very well ) I do think I gott'a figure out how to lower it another 2" though ! LOL
.....
Bob........

What is everyone's average MPG on your ninjette. My 250 is averaging around 45 MPG.
When I refill the tank before a ride I reset the odometer and normally reach 200 miles before having to switch to reserve and refill.

I'd be interested in this. Back when I rode a Ninjette on the daily I would get almost 60mpg. This was almost 10 years ago and on a different bike (same engine though now that I think about it... this one was swapped out). My SV would get 55-58mpg running 87 octane when I commuted on it which really gave me an appreciation for the midsize bikes. They really are the best of both worlds. The 250s have to run near their ceiling all the time which hurts their efficiency. It's crazy to see a 250 getting the same mpg that big sport touring bikes get.

I haven't really checked the mileage on my Ninja 250R simply because I start it and run it so often in the back yard without going anywhere.... but last year I think I was getting around 40~45 MPG not the best by any means but it is better than the car ! LOL

I usually get high 50s or so mileage from my Ninjette; 200 miles or so when I fill up, takes just over 3 gallons.

We're paying a bit over $5 a gallon here in SoCal. Having the electric car does help reduce how often we need to fill the CR-V, which is nice.

Death Valley had $8 gas a couple weeks ago.

I've always believed in having higher petrol prices.
With extra monies going to infrastructure upgrades and transportation research.

Instead all this extra money is going directly towards income for oil companies, who are paying it all out for executive compensation to show zero profits. Thus they don't have to pay any taxes. Oil companies making +$50-billion not having to pay single cent in taxes!!! And they're still getting paid subsidies from government using our tax dollars... grrrr

Will the price of gas ever go back down? I fear it will only slightly go down and we will be forced to be happy with it because it will be the new normal. Uggg!!!!

They're testing what market will bear. Prices usually go up before summer travel season when demand is high (inverted from normal economic models already). So I'm betting it'll stay high or get even higher.

Friend from S.F. sent me this last week. I'm so glad I don't have to commute there any more!

Even after the War ends the gas prices will remain High.... they push the gas prices up each year as high as they dare and now that their highest they have ever been able to get them they'll never lower them much a whole 20cents per gallon is the best you can hope for in normal conditions, now though you might see a 50 cent drop but that is all
....Next you'll see the cost of electricity go up steeply as they will want to get their greedy fingers into the pie as well.....
with that going on the cost of everything will take a huge leap upward....
and the paltry raise I got for ssi will be negated and I'll have even less to live on that a few years ago....
the President and his Stimulus package for gas is such a joke it's unreal
it's not enough for one tank full , way too little and way too late....it would take $5000. to compensate for the gas hike ! ....
we are headed back to the worst economic times we have ever seen folks
..... can they stop it ? will they stop it .... I doubt it because the super rich like it ! their getting richer through all this.... and the super rich run this country....
so batten down the hatches it's not going to be fun !
......

Yeah, gas prices are nuts. My Grom is looking like a winning option for running around town (Ninjette is a race bike). But my commute is 45 minutes in the cage and I have to carry things with me that won't fit on a bike reasonably.

In my opinion, the only thing that will bring down gas prices is lack of demand. Walk, bike, bicycle, public transit, carpool, skip trips that aren't useful.

They raise prices because they know we'll pay.

You're absolutely correct, but Americans refuse to listen to the truth. Those truths require sacrifice.

Looks like we are going to be forced to sacrifice whether we want to or not due to prices for everything going up. Everything we buy must be delivered to us via cargo ships, cargo aircraft, freight trains, semi trucks, etc. All those vehicles burn high priced fuel.

Yep exactly ! the whole echonemy of the USA is based on the price of gas and oil.... most inflation in the past has been because of the price of forign oil
.... maybe just maybe that will force the US Oil companies to drill for more oil here... I doubt it though because they already have all the oil reserves tapped here... oil wells in Alaska would help but I doubt that will happen. maybe it shouldn't there anyway.... but the price of oil has caused no end of tribulations on this planet wars have been fought because of it and will continue to be fought because of it.... making so much oil that the price drops to $2.00 a gallon here though is not going to happen ...they will ship it out first ....
....no $5.00 a gallon is what they have been after for 10 years... now they have it, it certainly is not going to come down unless the government gets involved and demands it.... but sense they would only do that if they subsidized the big businesses for their Loss ( because 98% of the people in the government are rich enough to have stocks invested in oil) .... so that is not likely to happen in this decade ....we'll have to wait for the Old fogies of the government to die off before any real change is done here unfortunately
.... and Yes our gas prices are directly effected by the government....and the governments decisions. that has certainly been proven by the recent change in gas prices !
.... I've thought for years that the OIL company's are too strong to be left alone, they can make or break the economy. it is time that the government took them over completely because of "National security" , and I hope they do.
.... it certainly can't be any worse !
.....
Bob...

By no means am I feeling sorry for the oil companies ...... but ...... this administration has shut down the keystone pipeline that would bring in oil from Canada and have almost shutdown drilling in the U.S. ........

I don't feel sorry for those THIEVES either ! the best thing to happen to the oil companies is to be taken over by the government... with NO compensation
they have raped the american people long enough !
