Why all the pop ups

Pop ups over and over again.... crazy, only here. Click on the bottom, only to get the top one.. then again & again.

some of the adverts pushed on this site through doubleclick run observation scripts. they are annoying, but do no real harm outside of taking up memory.

I haven't seen any popups like that. All of the ads here are run straight from google adsense; I don't use any funky ad-providers. If any of the ads themselves do appear to be weird in any way, let me know and I can block that particular advertiser / domain from showing up again via the google dashboards.

I think his terminology is confusing you. He's calling warning messages from his browser (IE) and antivirus (McAfee) "popups." He's not actually getting pop-ups from the site itself.

This is caused by a mix of http and https references in page content.

For example;

If the url in the navigation box of the browser is https://www.ninjette.org
And there is a reference to a script, img or whatever that specifies http in the page's content
Then the browser will pop the message "show only secured content"

ie is a snob when it comes to https and content

I think the newer versions of IE aren't quite so annoying about those, but older ones can certainly be clunky.

I actually liked the warning, to me... it's like mixing business with pleasure.
