WTB a set of of wheel .. plus.. for ninja 250 track

Looking to change my 95 ninja 250 16 in rims with pirelli scooter tyres into what you 250cc racers run. So looking for a set or 17 in Rims preferably with rotors and sprockets and maybe even tyres..

let me know what you have that you wan to sell that is in good shape for the track.

Thanks.

The rear will bolt in, but the front will not, the fender will get in the way. Even with the rear just bolting right in there, you have to be careful about rubbing the undertail because of rear shock compression. It's always the little things....

When doing the wheel conversion from pregen to newgen (ie 16's to 17's). The most simple conversion is to replace the rear swingarm and the complete front end to make it a no brainer. Might as well take care of those head bearings while their out too.

I may or may not be writing up a guide on how to do this in jan/march. If I do the swap myself I'll make sure to take a few pics and write up a thread.

that cr isn't wrong, the level of grip you will experience on 17" tires far exceeds what you can get on a 16" wheel in the sizes that the 250 runs.

It's a direct swap. That is why I commented above "a no brainer". Take off old stuff, bolt in new stuff.

We can PM details and such..

My bike is stock except for heavier weight oil, braided brake lines and slip ons and gp shift seft up.
Thanks to ALL for comments/input ... hope to make my bike better and improve on my riding!!

You will need the newgen swingarm, shock & linkage and whole brake setup. Converted the rear last year; so far so good. Looking forward to converting the front..

Check out my thread if you want. It should have some pics of the process.

Good luck and happy modding!

shock too huh.. Besides a new gen shock, is there a better upgrade? maybe and SV650(one of the year of 2000 to 2003).

I am getting most of the parts but my budgets is pend and looks like I still need a shock. Is the pregen shock too short?

probably wont work but.. my 2005 R6 has a rear "penske triple clicker", came with bike when I bought it so dont know much about it..... it wont fit my 250 pregen right? lol

I dnt know much about the other shocks, but I know there are gixxer shocks that fit. I haven't done much research on shock compatibility, but I'll start looking into it soon. Time for more upgrades lol.

You have to do some machining to a GSXR shock to get it to fit. There is info about it on here if you use the search. I'm on my phone or I'd post your a link.

the work is still on the works.. thanks for info..

hope my ninja improves a bit.

Using GPS I get her to 100 mph for about 3-5 seconds at the track, once there on 6th gear topped at 13k rpm she vibrates an peculiar extra... The demons tyres she has one have plenty of thread and I believe are rated for less than than (93 mph or so) but the amount of time I spend above 90 mps is less than 20 secons.. probably less than 10...based on my youtube videos on the back straight of Palm Beach International Raceway.

in addition to rims,, what about brakes..

Current stock brake set up with braided front lines...

getting my parts for the front and rear rims this weekend from Garth285, thanks!!

Not certain putting on the calipers for the front and rear (and am guessing also master cyclinder from a new gen) would make an upgrade to the pregen brake set up.

What do you guys recommend? or am i better off saving money and eventually getting other calipers and master cylinder?

Looks like this project will start this weekend!!! hope i finish in time for the next track day

I will be getting the new gen rotors fyi with the rims...

here is a video at the track.. front forks are a little soft still even with heavy weight oil.. ( and i discovered real counter steering!! i had not really used it before kind off)

breaks really are ok i guess but you all know better

actually, unless you guys say, my throttle feels jerky. I have not as much SMOOTH throttle control as I would like especially now that I am reading Sport Riding Techniques.

in case you can't tell, I am so hyper/excited for this!!

for the life of me I do not know what code is in youtube to put in between the [youtube]xxxx[youtube] thing

Dude! Nice edit with the cams and telemetry.

Save your $$ on the brake setup, you already have the SS line, just get good pads and rock on. Tip: If you downshift on corner exit.... something is not right. You missed a downshift or two I think.

thanks for track advice.. I need it!!!

i come out so slow in the corners that I need to down shift to get up to speed faster but currently working on making the apex and corner control better, so I bumped down to novice to be able to play better.

Harry's Lap Timer, Grand Prix Edition.

It records the lap data and overlays it over an external video (I used Sony action cam) or you can record the video with an iPhone and it will overlay it as well.

Pretty cool..

Problemas with the shock and some more

Hey guys...

I finally dig into doing the mod after procrastination.

First problem, got an 05 gxsr 600 shock but it does not fit on the top part to the frame as can be seen below.

Also, the new gen swing arm is not fitting easily onto the frame of the pre gen. The pregen swing arm was on tight. I have cleaned and hit it softly to try and help it fit but so far no go.

Also, the Gxsr shock did not fit onto the bottom pivot of the new gen OR pregen.

then below are more pics...

I suppose mostly I need help in choosing a rear shock that fits and is an upgrade to my pre gen shock. I kind of regret not getting
the new gen shock but I had heard they are basically no upgrade to the pre gen so looking and wanting some better.

Thanks

Saw a ton of other thread lol but waited so long to do stuff that I forgot what I had read.

Gonna try and get a ninja 300 shock to avoid much work and pretty sure its good enough for me, seems too much work for now for the gixxer to work.

Plan on racing eventually this year but think moding the air box, I should not.

Now to decide.... pretty sure between.

1) ninja 300 rear shock $35 to 45

2)ninja600c rear shock $45 buck

from thread 2) seems better but so much older .. ahh

Spring rate,

Also

based on a spring rate calculator ( we weighting 175 lbs with gear) and bike 330 lbs
it showed me needing a K=.8 (think kg/mm).

if I weight 150 then k=.75 (I plan on dieting and getting down to 150 lbs

this would also be a factor in which rear shock I get. I am having trouble finding number.

If one of you is near my dynamics, what spring rate are you using?

I think I'll be weight 165 lbs with gear and I guess the full bike will weight 315 lbs or so which leans towards the k=.75 and so what is the spring rate of a ninja 300 rear? I have read its same as that of a New Gen ninja with XYZ different but want to confirm.

http://www.sonicsprings.com/catalog/...pring_rate.php

and looks like

pre gen k=.44 kg/mm

and a thread here said new gen = .65 kg/mm

any new finding?

rear vs front spring rate

sorry for any confusion, especially to newer guys than me....

I believe spring calculators give the FRONT spring rate.

I have been using that number as the number for rear shock b/c I thought it was referring to the rear shock...

my bad and I think many others might have fallen to same misunderstanding.

05 gxsr 600

I have managed to mod an 05 GXSR 600 rear shock from a friend.

however, it is wider (change from 76mm to 90mm +) (see pic 3) and I will so use wider bolts and nuts on the knuckle and dogbone connection as well as make adjustable dogbones since this is not 320 mm but actually longer (330mm) and be able to adjust geometry afterwords.

the battery tray I have not moved yet..

i also ordered an 05/06 GXSR 1000 spring whose k = 8.1 kg/mm

this one is GXSR 600 2005 k=7.4 kg/mm

GXSR 1000 rear spring width?

cant find info on the following...

need make the knuckle 90mm wide to fit the 05 GXSR 600 rear spring without clearance issues, BUT what is the max width of an 05/06 GXSR 1000 rear spring?

my spring has not arrived yet and hope to mod the knuckle tomorrow but need dimensions.

Getting 2 longer bolts and spacers to make them fit snug to the knucle.

Just saw your post,

yes, Harry Lap Timer has a couple of versions. The Grand Prix editions allows for mutlicam overlay ( its $30) the Petrol Head version ($20) allows for one cam but has tons of goodies.

rear wheel spacers

Are the rear wheel spacers for new-gen and pregen the same?

What are the dimensions supposed to be?

I do not have the new gen spacers and tried using my pregen ones and not quite a fit...check it out.
