power adders, goal of 45 hp

Good morning all, opinions wanted. I was wondering if it was possible to reach aroudn 45 horsepower to the rear wheel on our 250's? I read that back in the early 90's, the honda cbr 250's were making about 45 hp and I think kawi had a 250 in Japan making the same amount of power. Right now I am bone stock, if I were to the basics (full exhaust, re-jet) that would probably make a little difference? How were the earlier cbr's making substantially more power than our current motorcycles? What do you all think? If 45 hp was going to break the bank, then I don't think it would be worth it.

You will NEVER get 45hp out of the motor unless you Turbo it is the only way to do it. But not worth it. I can get you to the dance with 35hp which is more than respectable on these bikes. The 45hp bikes your talking about are both inline 4's as well so your comparing apples to oranges.

I didn't know that, thanks. Any reason why kawi didn't go with the inline 4 for these bikes?

These are budget bikes... low cost is key.

The easiest way to get 45hp at the back wheel would be to go back to the dealer, and trade the 250 for a Ninja 500r. That should get you to hp goal.

It will wheelie bone stock.
Fast enough for a 250..

Need more juice, grab a bigger bike. This little motor is pretty good for how small it is! Get your bike naked and check out how tiny the motor is. lol I'm surprised it will wheelie still.
Not bad, this lil bike is starting to grow on me.

Of course first rule of thumb is become a better rider, a good rider can do a lot with just a little.

Two-strokes essentially make each cc count for double, so those 250 smokers were putting out the power of a four-stroke 500.

You could sell the ninja and pick up one of those Honda cbr250s, did they sell them in the states originally?

Hate to tell ya but those 250cc I-4's were 4-stroke, not 2-stroke. FYI, Kawasaki still makes that motor in Japan, they just don't let anyone else have it.

If the 1000 can make 200 hp why cant a 250 make 50 ? Given an unlimited amount of time and money it may be possible . But not one that will meet EPA standards' noise regulations last through a warranty and cost 4000 for the whole bike.

The way the early in line 4s made 40 hp was to spin at 17000 rpm . The pistons are very small . I don't think they had much bottom end power. Another reason the twin is better for a beginner bike.

I cant see the point. The 250r will already outrun most cars, and even some much larger displacement motorcycles. I ride every week with guys on 1500cc HD's...and Ive never needed more power, I can keep up just fine, and Im running bone stock. In the twisties with them, Im on the brakes more than the throttle to keep from running up their slow butts...LOL.

The 250r has nuts...BIG ONES for a 250cc.

Ive ridden alot of motorcycles, 1K superbikes, cruisers, sportbikes, etc. I still think the 250r is the funnest bike ever made. Just the right amount of power, and downright snappy in the corners.

For me the point is the 250 ninja is a good bike .With some minor tweaks it comes alive.
