2004 breaks down but 45-60 minutes in to the ride

2004 running just fine in every respect. A really clean example with 6,000 miles on it and stored inside most of its life by the look of it. Electrical connections and cables are clean everywhere.

It just keeps breaking down after 45-60 minutes on the road. Feels like conking out with lack of fuel but the tank is clean, plenty of fuel getting out of the tap, float heights set, carbs completely stripped and cleaned (but they were not that bad at all) but the problem still exists. Valve clearances done and adjusted, new plugs fitted.

I can only think of the following and in this order:

1) ignition pickup coil failing when hot (very common failure on 90's Triumph's)

2) failing igniter unit

3) Ignition coils failing when getting hot but both failing together doesn't seem probable.

I can test the first and last item but if I need to replace them does anyone know a good source for them, new if possible? Same goes for the ignitor as well really.

I would suspect something like clogged tank vent before the ignition components. I'd recommend carrying a spare spark plug so you can quickly connect it and lay it on the engine, to separate fuel problems from spark problems.

One that gave me a hard time was the tiny fuel inlet filter that's right at the carb. It got clogged and limited flow in a frustrating way, and I didn't even know it was in there.

Thanks Triple Jim. Tank vent clear and I have replaced the little fuel filter with an external filter. Pretty convinced it is not fuel now, I have been right through that system.

Good idea about the spark plug though.
