Leaking Gas Tank

Hey guys. I just got a 2006 Ninja this past weekend. Before I bought it, I thought I did a pretty good look over the whole bike. However, when I get it home and let it sit for a while in my garage, a rather large puddle of gas appeared under it. I found that gas was dripping down from the left front faring at a pretty constant rate. I took off the fairing and found that the gas was coming from the bolt hole on the top side of the tank. I read up and found that this problem was covered by a recall from Kawi back in 2007. I called Kawasaki and they told me that the problem had been fixed back in 2007 by the dealer that the previous owner bought it from. As you can see from the picture, this has obviously been happening for a while because the gas has stripped the paint completely off the tank. Kawi said that they most likely would not cover this under their recall because it had been fixed before and because its 7 years later. My question is do you guys think I should raise some hell and try my best to get them to cover it, or am I better off just ordering a new tank? Thanks for reading and any help.

Yes this is a common problem. If you use a non original allen bolt that is a little longer than the original the tip will punch a hole straight through the tank.

There was a thread about doing a solder repair on this mounting a while back.
You can use soldering iron without the risk of explosion.
