Mirrors: how they're held in and pivot

Came across this by accident

The glass "snaps" behind the lip/edge of the body. There's no glue or bolts that hold in. There is a strip of masking tape behind the glass which I guess helps hold the glass pieces together if it were to break for some reason. Tension can be adjusted by tightening the nut on the spring inside the body.

To remove the glass, I suggest you heat the whole mirror assembly in the oven for a few minutes for the plastic to have some give to gently try the glass out.

Interdasting. Harbor Freight has some small levered suction cups with handles that may also come in useful. I use them for iPhone/iPod repairs and a larger one for iPads. The heat gun I use probably works better than plastic in an oven as well.
