Exclamation What the heck is this thing by my shifter?

2003 ninja 250 bought used. It's got this weird thing hanging off the left side of the bike near the shifter. I think it's an actuator motor but I'm not sure what it could be to. What is it? Is it important? What should I do to fix it?

This thing? It's a kickstand safety switch. It looks like it's broken loose from it's mount. It kills the motor if you put the bike gear while the kickstand is still down. You should fix it.

I like the way the "similar threads" feature finds all the other threads with "Heck" in the title,

or just remove it, tie the wires together, and don't forget to lift your kick stand....

but this is dangerous because bumping over a kickstand on a left hand turn is a nasty and dangerous surprise.... Definitely best to fix it.

I'm not a particularly forgetful person, but I think I'll fix it anyway just because. Thanks guys. I really appreciate it!
