Hi everyone...

Just found this site yesterday and it looks like the place I should be. I'm a newbie, finished the MSF course last spring and looking to buy a 2010/11 250R in the next few weeks. Seems to be a horrible time to buy as all the '10s are gone and the '11s aren't in yet! Still wondering if I should wait to check out the Honda 250 first.....

Anyway, if anyone knows of newbie riding clubs or can recommend a retailer in the Pasadena area I would really appreciate it! Thanks

Hey there! Welcome. I'm a newbie myself that had joined this past weekend. This is actually a great time to make a purchase. There are many '10s still in the dealer's lot. They even have '09s! Don't be afraid to throw out an offer that you are comfortable with. If they don't bite, you can always walk away and a different dealer will be willing to do business with you. And you can use that great excuse that its WINTER time! Take the offer or let your bikes sit on the lot until next season. Trust me they will budge

Are you looking to purchase new? Finance? Maybe I can give you some useful advice

Thanks everyone!

Airmax... since you asked perhaps you can give me some advice on the purchasing process. Good to hear that I might be at a good time to buy.

I'll be financing, I'm pre-approved through my bank for 6.25% but will see if I can get a dealer to get me a lower rate. My bank's loan is a fixed rate with no penalties for early payoff, not so sure a dealer's rates will be so straightforward. However, I might be able to work some warranty or equipment perks into a financing deal at the dealer. I'll just need to go in there and haggle a bit.

As for equipment, I've been piecemealing it together all summer... Bell helmet, Icon jacket, boots... I'm missing riding pants but am looking into vented overpants (it was 90F today in Nov!).

Any newbie buying advice would be great!

I got it! Drove my new 2011 pearl white/ebony 250R home from the dealership today and it was AWESOME. My first bike so everything was super-new and exciting:
I probably rode the rear brake slightly for the 1st mile because I didn't know how to place my feet on the pegs
Went on the wrong side of the double-yellow on my first turn but soon realized what I needed to do for all the rest of 'em
Fairly confident and a good first-ride... I just need to smooth out my shifting and find some riding buddies!

I think I lucked out b/c my ride home was almost perfectly straight!
