kinda disappointed on their thin-wall welding though. obviously very pourus and was not done with a skilled tigging hand. you're supposed to do two passes, one to fuse, and then one to fill. but they did only a single fuse and fill pass. probably with a mig.

it might be but i would expect to see some discoloration from the slag from the splatter if it was stick or flux welded.

Depends on the gas mix. I am in aerospace, our welds are not discolored, of have any spatter. I know the gas mix can make a difference, and so can the welder.

you use gas with welding sticks?

i'm sorry for my lack of knowledge. i thought sticks and flux core welding did not use external gas.

Yes, it is a mix of argon and C02 (I think). Stick welding (fillet) uses gas.
