88-94 cdi swap in 08-12 new gen wiring help
Hello everyone. I am in the process to replace my 2008-2012 cdi with the 88-94 cdi because it is giving me problems with rpm needle jumping around and performance loss.what I want to know is if someone could help me with wires colors from the 2008-2012 wire harness go to wich pin in the 88-94 cdi. I ask because I do not want to buy a wire harness from 88-94 because i want to make my own harness.i find the post where they made the 88-94 cdi swap but they do not specify the colors of the wires harnes of the 2008-2012 that go direct into the 88-94 cdi pins because they using the pregene harnes.i wanto make my own.tank you in advance for the reply

I thought that @g21-30 was pretty well-versed in the CDI wiring.

With the following info taken from the DIY, your question is answered: ======================================================== After removing the original CDI and disconnecting the original wiring harness, I then used a razor knife and carefully sliced down the center of the harness and peeled back the electrical tape. This exposed the eight wires; however, only 7 will be re-used, since the '88-94 CDI only has 7 connections!! Next it was just a matter of connecting 6 matching pairs of colored wires. The one remaining wire pair (solid Red ['88] and Brown with black stripe ['08+]) were then connected. Just to show how confident I was that this was going to work, I didn't bother disconnecting the battery. Just make sure the Red and Br/Bk are the last wires connected and DON'T let the plyers touch the frame. ========================================================= |
