You only get away with it because you derail them using infra red so we can't see it.

Hmmm...helmets that enhance our senses....sounds good to me. So...if a helmet could enable us to be aware of sights, sounds, smells and gravel on the road 1/4 mile ahead...might it also tell us the probability that what it has "sensed" is going to cause us a problem based on what we're doing.....kinda like having Mom riding a drone a few hundred feet ahead of you.

That would lead to laziness and inattention.

Consider what happened with GPS. People blindly trust it (there have been instances of people driving into lakes/rivers because the GPS told them to), and many have lost all sense of direction or place. Drop them somewhere without GPS and they'll have no freakin' clue how to get home. Their navigation skills have atrophied.

It's easy to believe that technology which removes the need to think for yourself is an "enhancement" to your own abilities. But the sad fact is that people are exceedingly lazy... if a machine can do it for us, we won't bother. Legions of people can't cook, because they've never had to learn thanks to prepared food and microwave ovens.

If you've got a helmet that tells you when there's gravel ahead, are you really going to still be looking for gravel? I think not. Your car probably has cruise control. Do you monitor its speed when the cruise is on?

Whenever someone introduces a new gadget that's going to make my life easier, the first question always is "Great... so what happens when the battery goes flat?"

Back when I was flying, the company airplane had a really nice autopilot with altitude hold. So one day I was flying down the Hudson corridor and engaged it so I could pay more attention to watching for traffic. Turns out there was a glitch that was causing the thing to lose altitude very slowly. Had I blindly trusted it, I would have been busted at best... or maybe hit the GW bridge.
