Help with bike ID

So I have a buddy looking to buy this bike off CL. It's an 07 and the guy says it has less than 1,600 miles on it and it has never been wrecked. My concern is the front fairing doesn't look like any other pregen I have ever seen. Is it stock? or is it aftermarket? Did they make other models in 07? He just doesn't want to get burned.

I think he had him talked down to $1,900. But he wants a 250 so he's not gonna get it. Its tempting at that price for me though

Tell your friend to jump on that, like a prom date.

I have both the Ninjette and EX, both are very similar in many ways, and it just little more hp, nothing to be scared about for sure.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ninja_500R

My question would be why so cheap??: I wonder if the owner is on the EX-500.COM forum?? I might know him then?

He isn't. The guy took the bike on some kind of trade, and obviously doesn't know what he has because he is advertising it as a 250. And my buddy doesn't want a 500. He already has a BMW f800 GSA and a ktm 350 exc-f. He just wants a 250 to play on and to teach his gf to ride.
Here is the CL ad if any of you are interested.

I agree with the above, the ex500 is a great bike. I'd suggest for people to start off on it as it's not overly powerful. The 250 is just a little more fun

Well, it depends on what kind of person your friend is. Honestly, a 250 is too big and too powerful for some people.

Exclamation

FYI, that's a 2009 color scheme. They added the tribal/flame decals in '07, but didn't have black that year (according to the parts diagrams). The '08 black had red decals, while the '09 had silver. http://www.ex-500.com/wiki/index.php...Are_Available?

The 10th digit of the VIN is the year, just to verify. http://support.alldata.com/alldata-r...-to-year-chart

$2800 seems like a decent price if it's really a 2009 EX500 with 1,582 miles. $1900 seems too good to be true, though these bikes have trouble competing with "bigger and better" bikes in the same price range on CL. I'm a little put off by all the inconsistencies though. It says "500R" right on the fairing decal (you can actually read it in my pic, but you can still see it in his). His mechanic got called away and didn't get to cleaning the right (side of the) carb? I'm assuming the carbs are installed (it's the silver bit in the open semi-circle between the frame and the tank/plastic), so he went to the trouble of putting everything back together and reinstalling, but didn't have time to actually clean one of the carbs first?

It could be a great deal for someone, I'm just a little wary of all the weirdness with it.
