While we do have the occasional really big bike, it's a rarity and they are generally very easy to get around - and usually don't leave the beginner group.

TTD 2014 schedule is up. Preferences on dates?

I will of course be in the red (beginner) group. Leaning towards Thompson because it's closest to me.

I'd go if there are close dates to each track making the long trip worth the distance. If I can fit all 3 or 4 tracks (Loudon, Palmer, NYST, and Thompson) into a 2 week vacation it would be supa. Then maybe hit NJ and that new track off 95 in NC on the way home.

My local shop is doing a couple dates with TTD. I'll have to find out when they are as I usually try to do those dates. Will post up when I know. Always fun and some good raffle prizes. Last year they raffled off leathers, gift certs, and tix to an ama race.

Would that be Razee?

There's already a day posted... August 18, and it's cheaper than the regular track day rate. Must register through Razee.

The Razee date has been moved to the Sept date. We'll be on the track Sun, Mon and Tues, and the Tues is the Razee day. Sun and Mon will be normal TTD's.

I am in also. I hope to see a lot of you there. I will be doing 2 days at Thompson this summer I just don't think I can make it before July or possibly August. I already have my Leather "armor" and Awsome helmet so I just need to get my Back protector, Boots and a really good set of gloves and I am ready from that side of the requirements. The question of what bike to bring is a tough one for me. I really want to bring my Ducati because an opportunity to really push that bike is the stuff (my) dreams are made of, but the cost of replacing the original parts should I go down is a nightmare! I bought a 2003 SV 650s with 20,000 miles on it for $500 and I have been making it as good a bike as it can be, I have a Yosh pipe with filter and USB PCIII, reworked forks, Gsxr shock, New tires and GSXR calipers upfront plus a few little mods I did just for me. I guess I will risk the SV for my first track day(s) and maybe bring the Duke when I get some Chinese plastics for her.

How many people are going to the first track day at Thompson? I don't mean the day in March where you walk the track (I would also like to attend that) but the first real riding day? I may be able to do an earlier trip than I originally thought but im not sure yet.

Ant, bring the SV. For your first track day, you will be pushing the rider, not the bike.

So I just registered for the free tour and the lunch. Unfortunately the seminar is sold out but I did spring for the $15 for dinner and a show? I will be there and I am hoping it is warm enough for me to ride there that would make the day more real. Ride my bike then walk the track and meet some really nice people. Sounds like a plan SEE YOU THERE!!!

Don't forget you need to get that chock home... it's a bit big to carry on your bike.

Why not bring both? Spend the day on the SV untill you feel comfortable, then take the Ducati for a spin. As long as you ride your on pace you'll be fine.

You in Worcester? If so you are so close you can go a few times this coming summer ( hint, Razee's track day). If you're in Mass. The track is only 25 miles away. Get a season pass.

Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park is excited to announce its initial offering of an exclusive membership package for the new drivers club, The Club, in 2014.

The Club will accept no more than 200 members, who will enjoy exclusive benefits of membership. Included are exclusive use of track days, VIP access to all racing events, Raceway Golf Club membership, special Raceway Restaurant discount rates, private access to future “members only” locker rooms and lounge as well as many more incentives and amenities. For complete information about The Club packages and rates, please fill out the contact form.

I used to go to Loudon a few times a month when I lived in Boston. Many times I had the track to myself, other times there were bikes, cars, karts and it was crazy.

Thanks to everyone for the info and feedback. I am so psyched to hit the track this year. I just paid for the lunch at the march 15th Thompson event and I still have to pay for my wife and riding buddy as they are both comming also! As far as the track days (not the march event) are concerned, I would love to get a membership this year but we are just about to buy a second apartment/house to rent out so I am not sure how much extra cash I will have this year. Also this will be my first trip to the track so I want to experience it before committing to a whole year, just in case I don't love it. I am sure I will love it but I just want to be sure. My real hope is that my wife and my friend will both join me so they will come also. Every married man knows if the wife doesn't approve then it makes it very hard to show up every event. She loves to ride but is not too psyched for the track. You will get to meet her at the March event.

The last I read about the Upstate NY track is that it will be 250 only. I saw a video of the upstate ny track and it looks really cool, lots of elevation changes and a really nice layout with some fresh looking asphalt. I may have to raise the wifes 250 back to stock and make a trip out there. The last I heard was they were limiting the groups to 25-30 riders max so if they break them into groups should leave plenty of track per rider!

As for the question on bike choices, that's always a tough one.

We generally say you should not be afraid of bringing a bike because you are afraid of crashing it.

It's our belief you are just as likely to crash your bike on the street - and maybe more so.

When it's your first few trackdays, you should treat the track as a really nice road, with no cars, no sand, no cops... no surprises.

Keep yourself in check and you'll be fine. Ride over your head and just like on the street - you can find yourself in trouble.

I've been running/riding at trackdays since 1997 and haven't had a crash yet - so I know it's possible. My "tricks" are simple:

1 - I slowly add speed each session, based on the current conditions.

2 - I don't try to start each session going as fast as I was at the end of the last session... in other words, I progress during the session as my tires warm up and I start "feeling it".

3 - I "listen" to my bike. It's rare for things to go from perfectly fine to crashing. Usually there are some wiggles and shakes or going off line first. When you have those moments where things aren't going perfectly smooth, then bring the speed down a notch and figure out why! Many new riders just keep pushing it as though adding more speed - or even doing the same speed - is somehow going to fix the problem.

Anywho... looking forward to seeing many of you at the CT meet and greet. Hopefully no snow on the track so we can do the trackwalk!

My Wife (Cheryl) my friend (Edward) and I will be at the March event. I hope Edward will be able to do the same Track day as me this summer but he will most likely just be watching. My wife is not ready to hit the track yet but I hope when she walks the track in March she might change her mind and try at least one trip. Other than that I am all ready to get out there and see what its all about. My reason for not bringing the Ducati is that it is all perfect and has hardly a scratch on it after 11 years of service and I don't think I would be able to fully focus and enjoy my first trip to the track if I was so worried about crashing that bike. A 2003 Ducati 999 might not be that great a bike to some people but to me this is second only to my wife! I don't want to learn a new track, focus on riding technique and worry about my bike at the same time. I am not afraid to crash just afraid to crash that bike. I will still get points for showing up and riding and I may bring it to a later track day I just have never been to the track and that gives me some reservations especially with a bike that requires a lot of throttle control.

Hey Ant, watch the video of Alex.s in the "FL Anyone" thread. Alex.s does exactly what Tony says.

Warm up lap (start at a slower pace)
Add speed each lap (the music change indicates the pace increase)
And so on and so forth...

Come back on brain overload, a goofy grin and some miles of VERY happy riding!

My resolution for the new year was to shake 1000 hands. With the FL trip done, I am 30+ shakes deep with plenty more to go. Let's plan this before it gets to late, let's ride!

CSmith12 I loved the video and have seen the videos on the TTD site. I think I have a good handel on the whats and whys so I have a plan. I am doing a 2 day trip for my first track day so I think I will do what you said just a little larger. I will do day 1 on the SV then I will bring both bikes for day 2. I can do my warm up first ride on the SV then if I am feeling it I can take the Duke out for the remaining session(s). The more I watched the video you posted and others I keep thinking that is why I bought the Ducati and I would regret if I didn't track it anyways. I just got good news it looks like I may be getting a new job which would double my pay so I should be able to do a few track runs this year. Fingers crossed

Have you decided on a certain day/days? I have all the cash ready for a 2 day trip but I have not decided on what days to go. I have posted back n forth with ADouglas and I think we are going to meet at the March 15th event. I would like to do a day when you and possibly he will be there. I would like to meet both of you plus whats better than posting with people you have hit the track with??? I hope to see you at the March track walk and we should see if we can all get together on the same track day. GO MEMORIES I don't want to be embarrassed without witnesses

Can't make the March 15th event and I aint driving all that way to walk the track if you know what I mean lol.

Here, lemme throw some dates out there.
JUNE 14 (Sat) Connecticut (Thompson Speedway)
JULY 20 (Sun) Connecticut (Thompson Speedway)
JULY 21 (Mon) Connecticut (Thompson Speedway)

I know those dates are out there, but those are the only dates I could make the trip and NYST is questionable right now.

July 20+21 works for me. I would like to hear from ADouglas before I say for certain but I may end up booking those dates and possibly see if I can do a second trip with Adouglas. I want to ride with him because this will be my first trip and he will also be in the newbie class. What class do you ride in? I also just realized you will be coming up from Kentucky do you have a place to stay up here? I live only 40 mins from the track and about the same from the future Palmer MA track (2015?). I totally understand not coming for the track walk, we will fill you in on the details.

I can ride in any class from novice to expert. I have been known to ride in the novice class just to have fun with friends, that's just how I roll. Keep me posted.

We make sure to not oversell our trackdays. In general, we sell enough spots so there can be an entire football field worth of space around each rider.

Unfortunately, we'll get riders come into the pits and complain about the track being crowded. In reality, there will be a train of 10 or 12 bikes, and then 1/2 mile of empty track behind them.

While I understand wanting to ride with your friends, we try to encourage people not riding as pairs or groups.

We've found that especially in the beginner groups, even 2 bikes riding together will start a "train".

A 3rd rider comes up behind you both, decides he cannot safely get past 2 riders, so he falls in behind. 4th rider catches the group, etc, etc.

Next thing you know we have 10 bikes riding around the track in a train.

Anywho, it's OK to ride for a lap or two together, but then we like to see you separate... at least far enough that someone coming up behind can leap frog one rider at a time.

Understood Tony,

Normally say... when I am filming a rider in front of me and hear a rider on my six, I give them more than enough room to pass, give them an opening on the inside/outside or even wave them by on the straight. Other times I will pass the rider in front of me to tow the passing rider around when/if possible. Other times, I just hotpit in and hold a lap for the "friend" to pass the start/finish and then catch back up.

Have a look at the video of Alex and I that I posted in the FL thread. About every other lap I put a considerable space between us to allow other riders by, not that there were many anyway in the novice group. But like I said, it's your party, and I have no problem playing by the rules.

Looking forward to riding with you guys and what looks to be an interesting track.
