Dearest Friend Passed Away While Hitting the Track

Lost a dear friend of mine recently while doing track day. He was a good friend, great skilled rider but humble and would not want to be referred to as one. We all called him "sifu" for "teacher" in chinese due to his skills. His demise was also covered in our local tabloid. He passed out due to heat stroke and failed to recover when hospitalized. This incident was at Sepang International Circuit.

He drove about 240km from his home to the track. With little rest and among the earliest to arrived, he did mention to one of us that he was not feeling well. He rode the bike anyways.

Please guys be extra careful and please be sure that you are hydrated enough each time you hit the track.

Was expecting to read about some horrific accident. A sad reminder for us all when doing track days in the middle of Summer, that we need to stay hydrated.

RIP Sifu!

Very sad, Abu.

It can be very hard to know when you're not up to the task... especially since with fatigue comes a reduced ability to make the right decision.

Thank you for the kind thoughts and wishes. I cried every time i think of him and reading this thread. I have been on and off from here, reading but was not able to reply. I knew I had to reply as that was the most appropriate thing to do.

We were supposed to meet up on that date, but due to some unforeseen circumstances which I wasn't able to avoid, my slot was replaced by someone else. I was away during the funeral due to work and could not make it in time.

Oh how I really regretted not being there & missed out paying my last respect for him. Damn I miss him so much!

Abu, he wasn't even there at the funeral - he went home. You can always pay your respects at the cemetery or anywhere you are. Dedicate your next race to him - It'll make him smile.

So sorry to hear this and it's an important reminder about heatstroke and the importance of hydration while riding. Many don't realize how hard riding can be, out in the elements and how important it is to stay hydrated. Sorry for your loss.

So important to stay hydrated at a track day. WE all like the weather to be warm and sunny so the track surface is HOT so the tires stick like glue. Having a canopy for shade helps but staying hydrated is soooooooo important. You are out in the elements all day and it takes its toll. Water....water.....water

I've given up on track days and racing just because I'm tired.

I work a lot and I might spend Friday night trying to get ready for a Saturday at the track, but early Saturday morning I realize I am so damn tired from a 60 hour work week that I would be a danger to myself and others if I got on the track.

I might have everything packed, the bike on the trailer, the weekend paid for, but I get up early to go I can tell it's going to be too rough. I feel bad about it but then I go back to bed and sleep until 2pm to catch up on the sleep I lost all week.
