What attracted you to your ninja?

So what was the reason, or reasons, that made you want to get your li'l ninja.

Mine was cheap purchase price, easy to find parts, good gas mileage, and did I mention it was cheap?

FYI: I didn't do a search, so it may have already been posted.

Actually when i first got interested in motorcycling I loved the older gen 250's, don't know why but the smaller bikes caught my attention more than the bigger 600's and up. And I decided last year to start looking into getting one, found out about the redesign and bought one. Had fun on her till she got stolen, but Ill be coming back soon.

My reasons:
1. Cheap price
2. Cheap on insurance
3. Great gas mileage (i'm a hypermiler so this was a big draw)
4. Used one for my MSF class and fell in love.
5 Handles great (after you put new tires on it of course)
6. Great reviews from this site and others.
7. 20 years on the same design... they must have been doing something right

As a new rider, here are the things that lured me to my baby ninja:
1. Recommended by many sites as a great starter bike.
2. Looks
3. Size - Bike is easy for a woman to move around.

I haven't regretted for one second my purchase.

The main reason I purchased the ninja 250r was for the gas mileage it provided. Gas was near 5 bucks a gallon then and was hurting the pocketbook bad. I liked the look, low maintenance costs and pricetag and have only heard positive things about the bike from anyone that has owned one.

1) Consumer Reports rated it better than the Rebel
2) Price
3) Great bike to get back into riding after 20 years
4) Actually more comfortable to ride than a cruiser
5) Gas mileage
6) My son said I looked much cooler on it than the Rebel or V-Star (I think he was putting me on, though.)

I found mine cheap.. it needed some work, and I wanted to learn about working on bikes since I have a background with cars.. I had fun "restoring" it and having fun riding...

Plus.. it is green.. and green does rule..

I got mine because of the 250 being the best beginner motorcycle in the USA according to virtually every online site dealing with the subject. It was small, light, excellent gas mileage, still had enough power and speed to be safe on the highway compared to all the other 250's, the price for one either new or used was extremely low. As for the particular one I bought. It was in great shape, well within my price range, already had 90% of the mods I would have done myself (just want to get a corbin seat for it), was low mileage and well maintained.

I am a beginner, so I did a lot of research before I decided to get a ninja 250 or a cruiser. I thought that the smaller engine cruisers would have to work a lot harder to keep up speed on the highway, so I chose the ninja. The toughest part for me was choosing between the red or the blue!

Let's see..the engine in the TL was in pieces in my garage, needed a second bike, and my wife had been wanting a ninjette for a while. A year and 7k miles later, she still hasn't so much as obtained a permit, whilst I have been happily riding the wee machine.

The things that made me lean towards the 250 was the new style and the price. ( Im going to sound so damn spoiled when i say this but... here goes lol) my parents actually offered to buy me whichever motorcycle i really wanted. So the very first time i was of course looking at the R6, CBR600, ZX6R, and all those other great bikes. However i never had any experience on any motorcycle and i researched which was the best starter bike. So i decided to get the Ninja 250. I dont regret it at all. So thankfully i have AWESOME parents that one; let me even get a motorcycle, and two; got me a ninja 250

1. Inexpensive insurance
2. Best beginner bike
3. Gas mileage(although not exactly the 30km per litre i was hopin for)

Everything about the bike is awesome, looks, cost of use, performance. Can't beat it value wise. I'd say 'pound for pound' tis the best bike goin.

Everybody already said my answers. Add to that I was going to need another vehicle soon anyway, a friend talked me into it, and all I had to say to the wife is "60 MPG" and she was all for it.

When I was looking for a bike to commute I wanted a full fairing, as I ride regardless of weather, within reason. I searched the secondhand market but found nothing but over priced nearly new bikes a new CBR 600 coats $10 000. I did look at a SV650 and an old CBR 900 and came to the conclusion that a new bike with three years warranty, even though it was a 250 was a better buy. After completing 2500Km I am still of that opinion as a commuter bike it’s good if however I was to go touring especially with a passenger it does not have the power needed for comfortable feeling on the road.

- Supersport sexyness.
- Fun and uncomplicated to ride.
- Economical fuel consumption and performance meets my needs.
- Not a huge investment, for a new bike.

i hear that on the insurance. i would have been around $1200 per year on cbr600rr. full coverage on the 250 was like $330 for me.

although the very low mileage and steal of a deal price brought me to the 250, it was the handling, hands down, that made me buy my baby!

It's all been said. I was looking for a good starter bike, hated the Rebel, and walked into the dealership to look at a Nighthawk or a dual sport.

One dealer was trying to push me to stuff that was too big - GSX650F, the 600s, so I politely sat on them before taking my leave... Hated them.

Went to a different dealer, looked at a KLR650 out front and realized it was taller than me. Went in, saw the blue machine, sat on it and said... "Yeah, this is it. Wrap it up." Surprised the friends I had with me and the sales guy.

I read reviews that stated it was a great beginner bike - it was light, low to the ground, and forgiving. I personally thought it looked great.

I got a call from the dealer, the day after my MSF class/test and on same day I got the M on my driver's license. They just got one as a trade-in over the weekend, it was still being prepped for sale.

I stopped by after work. It was a used '08 and GREEN (the color I wanted most) with 250 or so miles for $3300 (~$4,030 OTD). It seemed like providence, so I bought it.

I'm still happy about the impulsive buy. No post purchase cognitive dissonance this time!

Don, Isn`t that a flash when you raise your face shield. With me, they see a snow white beard. I picked the Ninja for handling, braking, acceleration, flickability, and looks. It is also a lot more fun to ride than a Norton 750. It will also blow it off the road. In its day (70`s) the Norton was an impressive machine. The times have changed. Unless you are talking a factory 250 racing bike four times the cost of a Ninja--there is nothing in the 250 class that can come close.
