Oil level glass gauge/Frame bracket for exhaust hanger questions

The glass guage on the engine cover was cracked in my wreck at the track. On bike bandit there is a part number for the glass piece, but can it be replaced.

Also the bracket on the frame where the passanger peg/exhaust hanger connects is bent in. I couldn't straighten it out with my hands. My idea is too get a torch and heat the bracket up to help me be able to bend it, is this a bad idea?

Thanks for the help

Mitchell

i am guessing the instructions are for expanding the metal ring and making it fit.

Any ideas on the exhaust hanger frame bracket

In my attept to bend the exhaust hanger back I was unsuccessful. I did realize though that in the accident the bolts holding on the rear passenger peg/exhaust hanger were stripped. So now my option is to take the frame to an establishment that can cut and weld the other side bracket onto this side of the frame. I do not plan on having a passenger on the back so the rear pegs do not need to to back on. Is this a bad idea?

You could try filling the old threaded hole with JB weld and re-tapping it. If all it's going to be doing is holding your exhaust I don't think it would be an issue.

I didn't bother putting it into the freezer. I'm not sure why you would want to. I drained the oil and pulled the cover off. It's pretty easy to do. Then you just tap it out with a screw driver and mallet. The new one has a rubber seal on it and you just press it in. You can tap the edges with a rubber mallet until it seats in. I replaced mine this way 7 months ago and it doesn't leak a drop. I think it took me longer to pull off the cover and put it back on than to replace the glass gauge.

Freezing it would be to try to get the metal outer ring to contract a bit so that it will be easier to press in.

There's no need to make it contract. The metal ring is smaller than the hole already. I've replaced mine before and there's no need to freeze it. Just put a dab of oil on the seal and tap it in lightly with a rubber mallet.

I wasn't sure if the sight glass was pressed in from behind or from the exterior so I removed it. It did make things a lot nicer to work with. I found that I had to punch out the old glass from the inside because the glass was cracked but still all together. There's no way to pull it out unless the glass is broken through. If it is broken through it's a good idea to take the cover off and see if there are any glass chunks inside. Either way to me, it wasn't hard. You just need to get a new clutch cover gasket and that's it.
