Yeah, budget bike with budget brakes and budget suspension, that's what makes it fun to modify!

Things will finally start happening with the bike build again, just got the new high-comp pistons from JE yesterday! 13.5:1 compression, stock bore, so it's going to probably take 50/50 mix or pure race fuel, we'll see. Once we get it back together we'll have to dyno it and get a PC-V map built. Hopefully in the next couple weeks.

I do have one extra set of JE pistons if anyone else want to bump up nearly 3 points in compression on their 300!

Awesome thread!

What size tire are you putting on the 4.5 rear?

I'm going to run the Bridgestone 250GP slicks, the rear is a 165/630.

And now it looks like we'll be adding high lift cams too, thanks to a reference from supersport!

Here's the place selling them:

That is a lot of lift in those cams. Piston to valve clearance will most likely be tight and must be checked.

Nah, just after to build the map, I don't really care what the HP number is all that matter is how fast will it go!

@sprinter, may I ask you if you got your Marchesini's already because I would like to know what their weight is?
And also as information, the Galespeed GP1 used at the NSF250R in Magnesium are 1930 gr front and 2680 rear (2.5x17 and 3.5x17).
http://acv.co.jp/products/00708

Thank you in advance.

BIG progress today, IT RUNS!! Still need to get it on the dyno for a custom map, it's way too lean now, but at least we got it running and heat cycled the engine a couple times.

Feel the power! Ha ha!

Got her all together now, just needs some more decals and most-importantly to get on the dyno for tuning. There is plenty of clearance for the Bridgestone 250GP slicks, it's nowhere near rubbing the chain or swingarm. Should have more than enough grip. We also raised the Woodcraft rearsets up higher with some brackets for extra cornering clearance.

I can do even better! I have the AiM SmartyCam GP HD camera and AiM Solo-DL data logger that I'm going to take off my other bike so I'll be able to get GPS data overlayed on the video!

Can you pass on information on the Ohlins MKII that you used? It appears to be a GSXR shock but was wondering if you re-valved it for the 300 or used it as it was shipped? I pulled the prints on SU789 today as it's the right length, but was thinking I need to re-valve it. the How did your MKII compare to the KA-841 you had on previously.

Also, let me know if you still have the spare JE pistons, as I would be interested it them.

Thanks Johnny for the welcome!

I've been racing for a lot of years, including quite a few years in Europe with FIM under a Dutch license. I just picked this 2014 300 up for my son and started the part selection process. So far I went with the K-tech cartridge which are to due to arrive Thursday because there's not many choices for this bike. Friends in Europe have use the K-Tech, so I at least was familiar with the brand. Ohlins offering is very low end for this bike despite the large amount of racing around the world with this bike. The only other component I have sourced this week is the exhaust, which is from M4. (Sponsor, can't beat the price).

I set myself up with a ZX-6R, which it mostly done except for new paint. Hope to have it paint in the next couple weeks.

I'm not sure which model TTX it is, it was built by Andreani in Italy. I do still have one set of the pistons left, $300, just PM me.

Just got it back from dyno, 40HP at the wheel, not bad for still being 300cc.

Sweet! Do you think the 4.5's will hold a 170? Without clearance issues of course... I have 4.5's coming but decided on a 160/60. 170 sounds tasty.

The Bridgestone 250GP slicks I'm running are 165 profile and they fit fine with no clearance issues, so I'd suspect a 170 would fit too.

What's the sidewall height, if you don't mind me asking? I'm worried about it nipping the front of the swingarm. The chain guard would have to go but no biggie.

I'm not sure on the height, but there's at least an inch or more of clearance with the front of the swingarm.

I'm have a 170 mounted on my rear 5.0" wide Dymag for use during my construction stage and it clears fine. However, I wouldn't ride with this on the 300, as the 250GP profile tire is the better option. The 170 tire adds weight and the profile isn't as user friendly as the 250 tire.

This bike has a long wheel base and very relaxed rake, so the 170 would slow the transitions.

On my bike, I've added an aluminum swingarm with the 3.5/5.0" magnesium dymag and will mount fresh 250GP tires to hit the track. Up front I used 43mm forks, as they are lighter than the OE forks, with a 310 rotor paired with a 6 piston PFM caliper I had purchase for one of my supermotards but never got around to installing it.

I'll post some pictures soon but don't what to hijack sprinter thread.

32hp stock with slip-on and power commander on that same dyno. I don't know bone stock. Mine has high-comp pistons (stock bore), hotter cams, ported heads, full Scorpion exhaust, power commander w/custom map.

Great numbers, who did you use for the cams? I got the Pistons today, thanks again.

I'm working on some over sized valves as well, would you be interested in a set?

Once mine is together, we'll have to try to get together for a track day. Ii don't know if I can make it happen before the end of your season, as you got a head start on me. I've only had this bike about three weeks.

To be honest, I don't ride my bike hard enough/on enough twisty roads to notice a difference. A lot of my riding is light to light stuff. Just want something that looks better, and won't cause me hell. My front is lowered if that matters. As it is, it dives into corners hard, and it's fun enough for me Thank you for the feedback! Now to find a tire with a good enough track record that will fit.

You can use any trackday tire in a 160/60/17, as they all measure 170.

When you change tires, any change in diameter will change the bike's geometery. The large rear tire will bring the rear of the bike up and change the rake slightly if you keep the same front. This will reduce the amount of trail, lowering the fork also reduce the trail.

Crower Racing did the cams. I've gone as far as I want to on the engine at this point, I was hoping for 40 HP and that's where it's at, so it's all good. We'll see at the track this weekend how it compares to the other 300's out there.

I also weighed the bike now with the Marchesini wheels on, and we're at 321 lbs. with very little fuel, so it appears the wheels dropped about 9 lbs. Bone stock was 359 lbs. My winter project this year will be to drop those last 21 lbs. from it to get down to 300 lbs., which is the goal. I think it will be easily achievable by cutting off the subframe and replacing all of the heavy steel brackets in the front of the bike with some custom aluminum pieces. If that's not enough, then I'll look into one of those aluminum swing arms.

First track weekend is now complete, had a great time on the 300. It's definitely got more "go" than it had before. I had a little advantage on the straights over any of the other 300's. Compared to a bone stock 300, I could pull up next to it on the straight look over, wave, and then twist the throttle and pull away. Pretty big difference. With the guys who have race bikes that are lightened, full exhaust and tuned, I still had a noticeable power advantage, with a similar weight rider. Doesn't necessarily mean I can lap faster, but I never got passed on the straights! Ha ha! I have to ride quite a bit below the limit since I'm running the events, I can't afford to get hurt. I think if I can get out to a race round or two next year I can go pretty quick on it.
