IRC Tires

Ok I know there have been multiple threads about tires and such, but I didn't want to spam them with pics.

Here are pics of my current IRC Roadwinners, they have 5,000 miles on them. I know the fronts are fine but it's rear I'm starting to question a little.

Could you guys tell me how long you reckon I have left in these tires? I think I may only get another 1,000 miles before I need to change out.

On the sec pic looks like your even with the wear bar in the middle.Just remember you only have two tires,if one blows your screwed.Tires are cheap and dont risk it to save $200.

I better check my tires. I have over 5000 miles on mine, but I'm also pretty sure they are in better shape than yours. How are yours so worn down already?

I'm not very aggressive on them and I've only done a couple spirited rides on an abandoned racetrack. I've also only done one long 700 mile trip on them. Maybe it's the road surface, there's lots of sand and all the roads are rough.

Oh ok, I'll take a look again, but if I was right before I was getting low.

I think I'll give my tires another 1,000 miles or when I deem unsafe to use in wet weather. I don't have a car, so I will travel it all conditions.

I just replaced my stock (i think) tires today, and the bikes got 8,000 miles on it. And the old tire still had plenty of tread on it, but a nail decided it would like to hang with my tire.... anyways, you look like you have a few k left on them. As long as no burnouts are done

the cords showing just mean you should change the tire sometime soon. you still have at least like 50 miles left.

I was listening, and no I didn't know what I was going to do. It's called a plan, and plans can change.

Well guys after having a very frightening situation yesterday morning, I put the money down on a set of the Rosso II's.

Essentially a truck cut in front of me to go around another car and did see me as he did it. I had an open lane in front of me so following distance was no issue. When I saw him do it I gradually and quickly squeezed the front brakes and slightly on the rear. With only 50% braking power, out of no where my front wheel locked up and started to skip and tank slap.

Now all of this happened very quickly, but I released the front brake and let the bike recompose itself. Once the traction was back I went back on the brakes. Luckily I saw that he began to move again and I swerved around him, giving him the proper hand signal after I passed him...lol

So I know for a fact that the things I learned here on ninjette.org saved my skin. I didn't slam on the brakes, I kept my body relaxed and I didn't target fixate. I can only think of a few things why my wheel locked up. One, my tires were still cold, I had only ridden about 2 miles in city traffic and two, my tires were made early 2010 and had quite a bit of dry rot and a little bit of cupping. So, maybe the age of the tire had a little bit of influence. Either way I can point fingers all I want, but I know the new pirellis should stick like super glue.

Thanks for saving my skin guys!!

Looks like I should be getting my Pirelli DRII's in on Wednesday and I'm having them installed on friday. That'll give me the weekend to break them in before my long trip to Charlotte next week.

I had 10,000 miles on my IRC's and they looked the same as yours. Also ordered Rosso II's. I'm pretty stoked about them. Good luck with yours!

Not sure. I ride aggressively and have done most of those 10k miles on the Dragon. The roads are pretty good here. No shells/sand.

sorry just was trying not to thread jack.

1. reason there will be a fresh powder coat on it.
2. Ive never done it before
3. I dont feel like trying it on a set of rims I just powder coated (chances of chipping and scratching)
4. Since im not confident in my ability to do it, i dont feel like chancing safety.
5. I am lazy

Im sure some of those are the reasons you have as well

WHAT!!!?? No fair! I'd love to be close to that area. There are almost no good roads here in Southern Georgia.

not really. Its the putting the rubber on the tire I dont want to do. Not sure how that is mechanically challenged... but with 60 posts im sure youve been around long enough to see my project, what ive done, what I do etc.

I'm kind of on here sporadically, but i've seen a few stuff from you, but not much. I assume you're quite sufficient though!

I thought putting on tires was a tiresome process and you have to have very specific tools to be able to install tires.

its easier if you have the machine. Im not worried about anything as much as messing up the rims I will have just powder coated... lol Thats honestly the biggest reason...
