Gas leaking from muffler clamp that connects to exhaust.
Hi there I just cleaned my carbs today pilot jets main jets, all the vacum hoses on carbs the peacock.
And everything. I put everything back to normal. When I start the bike and give gas ..there's gas coming from where the mufflers connect to the exhaust on left side only. No leaks from hoses or anything.just from bottom where the muffler meets the exhaust. Any ideas on what happen this is first time I've seen this. |

Am I correct that you mean exhaust gas, not gasoline?

My first suspicion would be that gasoline is dripping there from something above it, not coming through the engine. Unless you're running one just the other cylinder, there's about no way liquid gasoline could get there through the exhaust port.
If you are running on one cylinder, you can easily tell because one head pipe will be hot and the other will not. In that case, I suppose you could find fuel coming out the joint. |

Stuck carb float?
If a carb float valve is stuck open, it could dribble gas into the carb, into the cylinder, and out the exhaust.
How is your oil level, rising? If it isn't coming from some hose, I'd pull the carbs and re-check. That is the only thing you worked on, right? Cheers, Mike |

As far as MylittleNinjette's idea, that's why I asked the question about a cold head pipe... if a float valve stuck open, that could flood the engine, make that cylinder not fire, make fuel come out the exhaust. So let us know if it's running on one cylinder and we'll go from there. |

I would check that you have spark on that cylinder by pulling the plug and grounding the electrode while cranking.
If you have spark, it's going to be a fuel problem. Either way too much or none at all. If the plug is wet there's too much. If it's dry there's no fuel. Chances are the carb needs to be removed and checked. Because you are getting raw fuel from the exhaust I'm thinking that will be your next move. |

And sometimes they get jammed a little on the first filling of the bowl, and a little jiggling or a whack with the handle of a screwdriver cures the problem. If you end up with the bowl off, you can put a hose on the carb inlet and blow in it, and you should hear air stop flowing when you gently lift the float. |

Ok I'll check on that tomarow, also I notice when I put the choke on full the idle stays the same and does not increase. You think that also related to stuck float valve.
I change my plugs today. There were a little wet with gas but not soaking wet. |

The carbs need to be synced and idle mixture screws set to 2.5 turns out as a base with the idle speed adjusted to 1300 after the optimum idle mixture settings are determined.

I'm glad you found the problem. If something is wrong shortly after you work on something, suspect the thing you worked on.
