Need help with speedometer..

A few weeks ago my odometer and speedometer stopped working but my tach and fuel gauge were working fine on my 2010 250r.. and with every problem i encounter with the bike or diy i run to this forums for expert advice just do a quick search and everything i read seem to all point to a problem with the speedo cable.. Checked my connections and they were all intact so i went out and bought a speedo cable thinking maybe the cable is the problem.. and put it on today making sure the prong end go to the wheel and the other end to the speedometer.. Now my odometer is working again but my speedometer is still not.. does anyone know what could be wrong or how to fix my problem? thank you in advance

Was trying to avoid taking the dash apart.. I guess I'm gonna have to do it now..

Lol about the R6.. I actually told my wife that the only way to fix the speedo is for me to get a new bike.. But since I'm here asking how to fix it you can guess what her answer was.. lol

I remember that @choneofakind posted his work on the internals of the speedometer, although for his pre-gen.

You can always buy a new speedo, and swap some parts around so you have a new speedo with the current odometer. The little electrical motors on the backside of the gauges (the ones that move the needles) all come off pretty easily.

The other thing you should remember is not to reset the odometer while the bike is moving. Those little plastic gears strip really easily and are only meant to be reset when the bike is stationary. Unlike your car, which can be reset whenever.

A simple tap gets my gauges working again

My gauges stop working and a simple tap
On them gets them working again. Not sure
Why but every once in a while. Your problem
May be more serious although it was the fuel
And tac not speedometer.
