ninja650 or 1098s

So I have 2 bikes at the dealers a 2014 green 650r or a 2011 1098s with 3k miles. What one to get. Insurance difference for the year 700.00 dollars with a 125.00 deductible.

@fishdip

- NEED MORE INFO -

Thats like me asking you - corvette or miata?

the 650 would be more comfortable and practical. but the 1098 is well --- beast

Lol I was thinking the 650 first since I can get it new. But it is so hard to find a 1098 with low miles for a ok price.

More like....

vs.

I rode a Ninja 650 at a demo day in 2012. There's nothing at all wrong with that bike. It's smooth, rides nice, looks good... but it's a transportation appliance with no character. I couldn't get the feeling that I was riding a giant Vespa out of my head. It sounds like a sewing machine.

If you're looking for a practical commuter bike the 650 should be great.

If you're looking for something that will make you daydream about riding and make your pants feel funny, get the Ducati.

Get the Ducati is the only responsible choice

Ducati if you keep the 250
Ducati if you sell the 250 and have another mode of transportation that you use daily
650 if you use the bike as your main a-b transportation and sell the 250

@adouglas

I heard a 650r with what I think was a 2bros exhaust, and it sounded great!!! BUT the three zx6rs, r6, ducati monster and 1098 behind sounded much better

When I was new here I figured everyone on this forum would like Ninja 650's (and 250's of course), it's so funny that the 650 is almost universally hated here lol. Kawa dropped the ball on that one.

Get the Ducati.

Think about it this way, can you handle the Ducati power, Italian idiosyncrasies and massive maintainance bills? My cousin actually sold his 1098 because it was too much for him to handle...

P.s. I would DEFINITELY buy the Ducati, because "I'm smart enough to know better, but stupid enough to not give a f@#k..."

Get the Ducati.
I get what you're saying, because it should be a bigger/better ninjette but I've never really been into the ninja 650. I like the exhaust and frame/rear suspension. But I dislike the banana seat and dirt bike handlebars. I sat on a new one before I bought my 300 and the tank was so thin at the seat that it was ridiculous, made it feel like more of a beginner bike than the 300.

The 2014 model doesn't look bad at all. (which is the one he's referring too).

if you love them both, let them both go.

otherwise the obvious question which begets itself is... how fast do you want to go?

modifications will only take you so far... and you will need deep pockets to make a small bike go fast.

in other news, OP flipped a coin and it landed on the edge showing neither heads or tails and he decided to buy neither bike and post pictures of neither and then OP probably got back into his bed and had another sweet dream about a motorcycle that he did not own but did very much enjoy riding in his sleep.

I just quoted quotes. A quota of quotes. quotations within quotations.

Perhaps you should call your local female service representative and ask her what she thought the quotations meant, and then get her opinion on what the quotes meant.

They look alright that's true. But they are so upright they remind me more of a sport tourer. The 250 has a sleek low front end, but the 650 is really high. Not very "sporty".

Now if they took the 650, put an SV650 engine in it, lowered the bars and made it weight 400lbs or so then I'd be very interested.

Is it really that hard to understand?

Most people describe the Ninja 650 engine as boring whereas the SV650 engine is generally praised (see: Internet). They could design a similar engine.

Do I need to explain that the handlebars are high and that the bike (at 460lbs) is kinda fat for a sporty bike?

... you just described this bike:

Clip-ons, dry weight right around 400 (depends on which source you look at, but it's no porker) and an SV-650 engine because, well, it's an SV-650.

There are a lot of bikes out there, and manufactures put a lot of time and money into R&D to come up with their fleet with each bike aimed at a particular target audience. If you don't like a particular bike, someone else makes one that is just that little bit different that might fit what you are looking for just a little bit better.

Also keep in mind, a mid priced greater than 600cc faired bike at 400lbs curb weight might be a little tough to come by. It's been discussed in numerous threads, weight reduction costs money, and often better quality, stronger parts also add weight so there is always give and take and you gotta pay to play.

I know these are out there but they were discontinued about 6 years ago from what I've read. The OP was looking at a new Ninja 650.

I think this was aimed at your desire to put an sv engine in a ninja650 and lower the bars ect... nothing to do with the OP
