Power Distribution center (make or buy?)
My 250 's wiring looks like a bowl of zip-ties and spaghetti from all the accessories I wired in. I want to install a power distribution center on the new bike, but they aren't cheap. But then again, buying parts at Radio Shack isn't cheap either. Has any one here made one, or have one of the commercially available ones? What's your experience/feedback?

I've done both.
Made one originally from parts at AutoZone. Had no problems at all though originally the connection to the tail light for the relay switch was shorting out and killing the switch. Went several months powering all my gizmos. Decided after awhile to redo it cleanly as each connection was protected with just a strip of electrical tape. Tore it all apart to add heatshrink to each spade. End result, ****ed that up. LOL Gave up and bought a Fuzeblock. Opted for that one since it is easy to move from switched to constant power. It was bigger than I thought but still fits between the ECU and battery box. Thinking of moving it up front for easier access and to have the wires not so crimped.

Is it cool that the Fuzeblock has no weather protection?

I haven't run through any rain since I got it and installed the bottom plate as I was intending on velcroing it down, but so far I haven't noticed any issues. I have it under the seat near the battery, so the stock fuse box is only a few inches from it. Figured it was a safe place.
I went with what they said on their site: http://www.fuzeblocks.com/index.php?pid=5#faq35

I bought some very cool waterproof fuse boxes from cycleterminal.com. I've been redoing all of my electrical stuff on my bike to make it cleaner than when I installed it.

Jim Davis, owner of Eastern Beaver in Japan makes excellent, high quality, reasonably priced electrical stuff for bikes. Even though he's based in Japan, he delivers the stuff pretty quickly. The BMW bike crowd uses his things.
His fuse block (combines switched and unswitched circuits): http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Wi...PC-8/pc-8.html I highly recommend his headlight relay kit! |

I've had this on my last two BMW's:
http://www.aerostich.com/aerostich-p...-module-1.html No fuses involved, completely solid-state. If you have an issue, you fix the problem wherever it is, turn the bike on/off, and you're back up and running.

Those solid state ones are pretty fancy, but a bit pricy for my tastes. Currently I'm leaning toward the PC-8 &30A Relay Kit from Eastern Beaver. I was going to go with the Denali PowerHub2, but I liked the idea of being able to replace the relay if it went bad.... a little cheaper too (not sure about shipping yet).

One of the best things I've done to the bike. Made adding Fog lights, gauges, chargers easy. Gonna rewire the headlights to it with better wire since stock is pretty thin and the voltage drop is pathetic. |
