Will 95-07 left switchgear work on a 94 EX250?
My friend has a 1994 250 and his horn button has broken off, so we're looking at our options. It's hard to find a pre-1995 left switchgear in good shape, and the newer style switchgear is more user friendly with the push-to-cancel turn signal.
So will a newer 95-07 left switchgear plug into the 94 harness without modification? Thanks!

I bought the left switchgear and after installing it won't start put the old switch gear back on and it starts right up. It appears that one of the connections has one less wire and pin.

re-pin your left hand switch connector
You need to re-pin the LH Switch connector to match the wiring of your harness.
The 1994 and years before use the old left hand switch control that was used on older models. It has an extra wire for the dimmer switch for the reserve lighting device. The pinning on the connector is slightly different but uses the same connector. It should work if you re-pin your left hand switch connector as below. For reference, here are the pinning of the LH switch connector and the harness connector. Just so there is no confusion you should be looking at the connectors like below pictures to match the pin to wire color/function: Switch connector: Harness: LH Switch -> Main Harness 1988-1994 F2-F8 Horn Button Black/White -> Black/White Black/Yellow -> Black/Yellow Turn Signal Switch Green -> Green Orange -> Orange Gray -> Gray Headlight (dimmer switch); HI/LO beam Red/Black -> Red/Black Red/Yellow -> Red/Yellow Blue/Yellow -> Blue/Yellow Blue/Orange NOT USED, ONLY FOR 1986-1987 E1-E2, for reserve lighting Starter Lockout; small 2 pin connector other ends into clutch switch Black -> Yellow/Green Black/Red -> Light Green 1995-2007 F9-F7F Horn Button Black/White -> Black/White Black/Yellow -> Black/Yellow Turn Signal Switch Green -> Green Orange -> Orange Gray -> Gray Headlight (dimmer switch); high/low beam Red/Black -> Red/Black Red/Yellow -> Red/Yellow Blue/Yellow -> Blue/Yellow Starter Lockout; small 2 pin connector other ends into clutch switch Black -> Yellow/Green Black/Red -> Light Green |

They make a tool to push the pins out, something like these:

Use a tiny jeweler's flat blade screwdriver that fits into the hole were the pin is. Bend down the tab that holds it in and pull wire out. Do that to each of the wires that are not in the right place. Once you have all the wires out that you are going to move... Bend tab back out when placing wire back into the connector plug, in correct place, to make it lock again. |

Just to clarify, I only pulled out that black/white wire because it was just random chance to be where I pushed in the screwdriver for the example.
You need to pull out and move: Red/Yellow Red/Black Blue/Yellow Black/Yellow The others stay in place. |

Is the '95-'07 plug compatible with '08-'12? Also, I never heard of the LH controls being called "switchgear." Neither the clutch lever nor the shift pedal are on it!
