$99 Action Camera

Monoprice has thrown their hat into the ring with a $99 action cam. I wouldn't call it a direct competitor to something like a GoPro, but it definitely cost less. My question is how much would it cost to get mounting options equivalent to more expensive cameras?

The quality on that camera is pretty bad. Even the original contour roam will beat it and look at how much the contour is. http://www.amazon.com/Contour-1600-C...s=contour+roam

That action cam is full of fail

Why would I want 6 ****** cameras? That's like saying "Well my ford fiesta isn't a ferrari, but I bought 15 of them, which equals the price of one!" It just doesn't make any sense.

I hate when people or companies try to market like that. "We know it's not that great, but look it's kinda cheap!" No that's not cheap. It's cheap if it works well. If it sucks, it's expensive. I wouldn't pay 13 dollars for someones old used boot. Even if that boot originally cost 200 bucks. Because it's **** now.

Some good points here but it depends on what ur looking for. If your objective is to have a dash cam to protect from unjust traffic stops or determine fault in an accident this might work fine. Especially if the alternatiive is riding without one cause you cant afford a gopro. Now if you want to have a million subscribers to you youtube videos then yeah maybe this is a waste at any price point.

The dash cam is a very good point that I didn't think of! If you need "surveillance" cameras (for lack of a better word) 2 of these would be great at that price! Just enough quality that you can show the police that the stupid bitch really did just stop in the middle of the road for no reason without warning!

Good idea!

I fully disagree, you could definately get a license plate with that quality. Its 720 video not hd but come on thats still standard def TV. If your intent was a inexpensive cam for recording accidents or to watch your form it would be fine.

OR as a second cam to add rear view to your videos,

I was, you won't get a plate unless the car is 10 feet in front of you with the plate directed right at it. The video just isn't clear enough to capture a plate at any distance

Once again I will stand objected. I just went and found some videos and you're right. Unless it's full 1080 with a GOOD camera, there is no reading license plates until you're stopped at a stop light.

Heres the awesome thing tho, the gopro 3 on 720 can read plates from a good distance. 1080 is even farther but resolution isn't everything

Nope not at all. Just like megapixels aren't everything. A 6MP dSLR can shoot way better pictures than that bargain bin 12MP you got on clearance at Best Buy for 70 bucks.

OK I kinda agree, in that what I was thinking was more in a collision situation. With low end stuff its always buyer beware. So for example the $50 currently on sale here looks like this vid. Like Joe said plates are hard to get unless your going with a nice set up. Anyway just my 2cents

Am I the only one who watches COPS? Those dash cams suck but the videos are funny as hell. Who needs HD ?

Yep...it's the one that does GPS (Countour +2). Where I work sells them and it's an open box marked down but then there's an extra 50% off.

You can get a GoPro Hero used for under a hundred. Right now you get get a brand new HD Hero 2 with all the mounts you'll ever need for $200. I've learned a lot in my short life, but one of the most important things is BUY SOMETHING OF QUALITY ONCE, INSTEAD OF BUYING IT TWICE. That said, I got a Hero 2 a year ago and it's been wonderfully.

Long story short, my best friend got hit and the driver blamed him, told the cops it was his fault while he was in the ambulance. No bike, insurance wouldn't help, and 2 broken arms later, the cops wouldn't even take his defense. A camera on his helmet would have cleared him.

Whatever you do, get one, and wear it every time. It's kind of like going ATGATT, be prepared!

Are you talking in general or to my post about the contour?

I meant the generic "action camera" looked decent, but I would pass and get a contour or gopro instead. I've got a gopro so it has my seal of approval, but I'm sure the contour would work just fine.
