Why so cheap?
I was bored at work and was browsing on craigslist and came across this.
http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/mcy/1284360732.html 2005 with only 1400 for 4250. Something is not right. He says may need to replace the chain. |

Hmm that does seem pretty inexpensive considering the miles on it (or lack there of)

Its not much cheaper than what, ive seen them going for around here. My real question is how somebody as a bike for 4 years and puts 1400 miles on it, they should get out and ride the thing.

I think you'll be surprised at how saturated the market is with 600cc sport bikes. If I were to upgrade I am confident for $4000 I can get a very clean mid 2000s brand name 600c bike with under 10k miles and maybe a few mods. I am part of another forum where some people created a thread about the same issue and many previous sellers provided feedback on how the market is not at its best now for sellers.

Now that said, I also would never show up with 4k in cash either without some friends and protection.

Ask him to meet you at the bank and you will get a cashiers check right there and hand it to him.

wow you guys are paranoid. just make sure that when you go to see the bike, that you meet in a very public high traffic place. like a walmart parking lot or something.
and personally as a seller i won't take anything other than cash or paypal either. i've never in my life even owned a checkbook. and i really hate those things. checks are just like VHS. let it go people. get with the times.

There is always someone out there that really wants to get rid of something. If it doesn't move, they don't think, just wanting to ditch it, and drop the price. Some people really need money. Mine 250 was in great condition, and pretty cheap, but the guy wanted to ditch it before he left for school where the bike would be sitting at home doing nothing. So he dropped the price and I got a good deal. The price was an easy 500-1000 lower than the other bikes I looked at.
It isn't always shady. You just need to pay attention.

if you find something cheap, you wanna always jump all over it as quick as possible BUT check it out before taking it.
hell if you seen the deals that i've gotten, you wouldn't think that bike was cheap anymore. last fall i picked up 4 motorcycles for free 1 which was in near mint condition with a $50 part missing, and the other was complete and running and just needed the carbs cleaned. the other 2 were in pretty bad shape. i also picked up a 94 Ford F-250 heavy duty with a nearly rustfree body for free (i love that truck). 2 weeks before my first kid was born, i picked up a rust free 95 jeep cherokee for free with 89,000 miles on it. the only thing wrong with the jeep was a broken u-joint and a bad leaf spring. the owner had gotten a new vehicle and i just happened to be in the right place at the right time and got it for free. see............suddenly that bike isn't so cheap anymore is it??? LOL sometimes people just need money really badly, or other times they just don't want it sitting around for ever. so in that case they make sure it'll sell.
