sticky hot clutch

recently one of the output shafts has become rather "sticky" once warm with the engine off unless it's in neutral. im assuming its the clutch. about to go change the fluids and filters anyway. i'm wondering if i blew one of the clutch shaft rollers? i forget is the clutch side on rollers or planes? only the inside two are planes right? the outside on the clutch side is a pin cage right? has anyone seen this before? oil looks like its time but doesnt look that far off. about to go do a full service on it. engine has about 40k and is on its second clutch. wonder if the clutch plates are glazed and sticky

Do you mind explaining that first part a little further for me?

well it had cooled down and wasn't as sticky so i didnt video it. but basically in neutral its normal, but in gear clutch in, ... if the engine is on its fine, but with the engine not moving, the clutch is extra grabby only when hot. normally on bikes i expect the exact opposite. clutch is grabby when cold and like butter once the oil is hot. but this one only is smooth when the engine is running and warm. trying to walk the bike forward or backwards when hot with the engine off, you can hear the sprocket squeeking almost a bit when it 'snaps' forward from the chain pulling, but then gets "stuck" until enough tension from the chain is applied to snap it again.

Your assumption may be incorrect.

The most frequent causes for dragging clutch are deformed metal discs due to high temperature exposures (exactly the same that happens to brake discs) and dents on the edges of the cage, which prevent the fiber discs from sliding freely and separate when they are liberated from the pressure of the springs (during clutch-in).

When the oil and metal are hot, the dilated metal discs (get more deformed or twisted) can over-rule the reduced viscosity of the oil.

Each time you clutch-in, you are pulling the crankshaft out.
There is no load on that needle bearing.

If your assumption is correct, you will find some metal in the oil.

i think you're right. its on the second set of clutch pads with original plates with countless launches on them. they are probably warped.

There are specs for the limits of how warp or thin they can become before causing problems.

Let's wait for others' opinions.
