metric thread size question
hi I was wondering where I might be able to get the thread size of the bolt that holds the shifting link into the heel guard the hill guard is bolted on for the footpeg and the shifter is bolted onto the heel guard,
I feel mine is a little stripped out and I wanted to try and tap it which is less expensive to buy a tap and it would be to buy the heel guard, it's held in there tight enough it doesn't move when you put a Allen wrench thread locker, I check it on a pre trip it's more of a bother just knowing that it is there like that. could I find that size in the E service manual. forgive my newbee 250 questions thanks, |

bring the screw with you when you buy the tap. you can get a full tap and die set with teeth feelers at HF for $25.

The thread is 8x1.25. If you can find a thing called thread chaser it would be better than a tap. A tap will cut metal away. The chaser will bend the metal back it its original shape. If all else fails a helicopter coil or time-cert will repair the heal guard.

Ya it got me. I was at work doing some dumb ****.
I ment heli coil. But I don't like them at all. Except they are readily available. What I use are Time sert thread repair. I have used them for twenty years. When rebuilding Mercedes Benz V8 engines all the head bolt threads in the block must be replaced. This is what the factory uses. www.timesert.com
