body cam vs go pro style cam

as the title suggests, I've been comparing the 2, trying to decide which to get. are there any reasons a body cam wouldn't be just as good? I like the idea of just having it on my jacket instead of having to secure a camera to my helmet/bike. I'm not looking to do Youtube vids or anything like that, just something to have for day to day riding in case of an accident or something like that.

Chest cam is not bad but you see a lot more of the bike vs the area in front of you.

I like it attached to bike for more steady picture. On my race bike, I have it attached to inside end of right handlebar for centred view.

Helmet attach is no big deal and will give better results than putting it on your body for the reason already stated.

If your purpose is as a CYA documentation tool, then a tank mount might work better. Not because the view will be better or anything like that, but if you don't make it super-convenient it will soon move from "This is a good idea" to "Why the F do I bother with this crap?"

So you want to make the camera very accessible, very easy to remove and out of the way of everything.

If you anticipate going to the track, heads-up that some organizations do not allow helmet-mounted cameras.

If you are wanting a camera to document a possible accident then you might want to consider a 360 degree camera that will capture all visible angles of your ride.

thanks guys :-) the body cam idea is out. looks like a tank mounted gopro would be the best option for me. I like the idea of the 360 camera, but the prices....yikes

Yes I agree, the GoPro is pricey but the 360’s are even higher!

If you're looking for CYA, I'd say helmet cam. Documents that you're doing head-checks for turns and lane changes. And if you are in a collision, leave your lid on and it's documenting interactions afterward if the other person sticks around.

As previously mentioned, racing orgs tend to insist on a hard mount to the bike, sometimes tethered with additional safety wire.

I'm thinking the GoPro Hero 5 Session. I would just have to figure out where I would put it on my helmet.

Heads up: The Session 5 has been discontinued. I have two and love 'em for their tiny size, but grab it while you can.

Battery life isn't great. Plan on recharging a lot.

GoPros are nice. I would mount on the chin if your going to use one, better profile. I have a drift ghost mounted on the side. Battery life is good and video is great. The wifi app sucks ass but the remote is a nice addition.

I put a Go Pro Hero II on my helmet. What a pain in the next. The drag at anything above 50 mph made it useless. If you go with a mount on top of the helmet make damn sure the camera is tiny. I use a handle bar mount for the Go Pro. Works fine, but no rear angles.

so much to consider lol! I just spent god only knows how long on the gopro website....it would be a hell of a lot easier if you didn't have to purchase stuff for it separately but hey, they gotta make money I guess. they are doing a good deal right now so I'm going to sleep on it and make up my mind tomorrow.
