Painting Yoshi

wondering if anyone has painted the stainless steel yoshi exhaust before? The carbon fiber one is ~$150 more..and I don't know if it's worth it getting a slipon for ~$500

you might want to wait for a GB on the new AP race exhaust. It's a full system and will possibly be priced at about what your cf slipon will run.

I dont know about you. But it makes me cringe thinking of paiting a $500 exhaust.

get it powdercoated - will look better and be much more durable. i painted my exhaust and have had to redo it about 4 times due to scratches, etc. i would pc it, but i plan on getting an Area P race exhuast via the group buy kkim referred to.

I'm not sure, but how does fiberglass get affected by 400F for 15 minutes? If it's ok, then powder coating is fine, but I'd hesitate to ruin an expensive muffler.

OP- Any reason you want to paint your exhaust? If you do intend on going ahead with the painting, scuff the can down first. Best thing would be to bead/media/sand blast the shell. If you can't do that, scuff with some 1500 grit paper, wipe it down with acetone to remove impurities, and then spray with ceramic header paint. If you don't prep it right, it'll just flake off the paint and look terrible.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but many Manufacturers use fiberglass in the mufflers as sound dampeners. It's commonly used in aftermarket auto mufflers. Every muffler with a perforated core is surrounded by fiberglass material.

That's good to know. I just looked up fiberglass melting points and it looks to be well above 400.

I'd be interested in a Group Buy.. who's organizing it? I checked out the AP website and saw that you have to ditch the passenger footpegs to put on this exhaust. I don't know if I am a big fan of that. Theres got to be a way around it...
