I am not 100% sure but I would like to give you my reasoning.

Typically hall effect sensors are used for abs and other accurate speed detection applications. They will detect ferromagnetic materials(eg iron) such as in a sprocket or other shape where teeth are moving in and out of the magnetic field of the hall effect sensor. Those types of sensors produce a sine wave as one would expect.

The downfall and why I believe they cannot be used in the speed sensing application for our bikes is because the magnet is attached and one or a few locations of the rotating wheel. The longest possible distance between the hall effect sensors and the magnet is lets say 10 cm. Well above anything that a hall effect sensors with that size can detect especially considering all the iron concentrated in the area; forks, break disk, etc.

The output will almost look digital . You are gonna have a short period or a rise, then rapid fall followed by a long idle time of no signal.

I believe an on/off hall effect switch is typically used in those applications in a digital manner. The gauge will time the delay between rising edges (or falling or w/e) and since the circumference of the wheel is know , the speed can be calculated. In order to improve the reliability at varying distances between the sensor and the break disk there are two pieces and it is necessary to insert magnets in the sprocket bolts.

Couldn't you just leave a magnet out?

Here's some pics of my new gauge cluster with 2 air fuel ratio gauges. I like it. Now I just need to reinstall my fuel injection. I still need to figure out how to fix the 10mph difference in speed.

I think I'm going to move the main gauge cluster closer to the top. I think it will look better. What does everyone think?

This is the same cluster Johnny had. I bought one and did my own spin on it. I made the back plate and fitted it all together. I uses two a/f gauges cause I have the ecotrons efi kit which has two oxygen sensors. So I use the a/f gauges to monitor each cylinder. I built this all for 150 dollars.

I could make more. I would just like to get the speedometer issue fixed. Also need to figure out a correct way to get the collant temp sensor to work. If someone could help me find how the stock coolant sensor works I'm sure we could figure it out. I could make these with any other two gauges anyone would want.

All together was 155 dollars sorry for the miss calculation earlier.. Main gauge is 85 dollars then both a/f gauges were 35 a piece so 70 for those. And then I cut out my own back plate out of spare 1/4 inch thick plexiglass I had laying around. I can easily make the gauge cluster plug in play. It's a very simple installation.

The plastic conector it comes with actually slides into the ninja connector. You just have to depin the gauge conector and put the pins in the correct spot. However it does not come with the three prong connector. So I easily removed the conector from the factory gauge cluster and used it on this one. I will say that a 400ohm resistor did not fix the fuel gauge. So problems still are fuel gauge, speedometer reading 10mph to high and also the water temp sensor. If you buy one from eBay I will be more than happy to post up a wire diagram for you.

Guys I don't think I would buy this gauge if I where you. I'm gonna buy something different and when I'm done I will post back. But the next gauge should be cheaper than most koso installs but a little more than this one.

Looks like the gauge on the Megelli 250r

These gauges look way too similar to the gauges on the Bennche Megelli 250r...

Do you still plan on possible getting stuff together for a (possible) group buy? If so I'd totally be interested. What is the in-between gauge?

Yes it is small. However if you go back a few pages is the thread you will see how small the first gauge looked. I will find a way to dress these up and add more features that will make them look very appealing.

Okay but it's really small...I converted the mm to inches and it comes out to 4.7"x2.3". Ya might need a few of them.
