Hit a coyote today...

Took my friend for a cruise through a nice road near her house today. Things were going just fine until I reached this one stretch. I was cruising at about 55-60 mph when i saw this brown blur of a animal bolt from the right out in front of me. At that moment I knew I was going to hit it, so I just held on and hoped for the best. After we made contact I began to slow down for the upcoming turn and stopped. My passenger had no idea I what had happened but I was real lucky to not have lost control.

A concerned motorcyclist saw us stopped on the side and pulled next to us to make sure we were alirght. I took a quick look at the front wheel and didnt see any damage. We talked for a bit then turned around and went back to where I had hit the animal. When we came around the bend and saw a highway patrol vehicle stopped with its lights on. The officer told me that she stopped because she saw pieces of bodywork laying on the ground and had thought someone had crashed.

Turns out the front lower portion of the fairings right behind the front wheel was missing and mangled. We found the body of a coyote laying on the side of the road. I feel real bad about killing the poor guy. At least it wasn't someone's family pet.

...anyone selling any candy plasma blue L/R fairings?

Sounds like a real close call! I'm glad you weren't injured. I hate to see any animal get hit. But, it should have known better.

Wow- glad you're ok.

Where'd this happen at? I've seen lots of coyotes roaming around where I ride--I saw a mom and some pups just the other day.

Very scary! That could have been bad. Glad you are ok and you were able to maintain control.

Not to be morbid, but did the animal get cut in two or did both wheels go over him? Either way it's too bad for the animal but way to keep your cool and keep the bike upright.

Dont see many of them here. We shoot them. Nice long hunting season. We can use electronic calls. They come a running for the sound of a rabbit in distress. Then you plink them at 300 yards with a .223 or a .17 HMR.

Joe Gibbs racing driver Brad Coleman was testing a

Gibbs car at Toyota Arizona Proving Grounds earlier this week and came onto

the radio and told his crew something rather unusual.

"Guys, I hit a coyote," Coleman said.

Coleman was running close to 200 mph around the 10-mile test track when

he saw the animal wander under the outside guardrail.

"I'm in the middle of the corner, and I'm doing like 190," Coleman said Friday

at Nashville Superspeedway before practicing his Nationwide Series car.

"I'm just cruising. You run the high line there, because that's where the most banking is.

It's the high-speed lane. There's just a guardrail there like on the freeway.

"I see this thing, it must've been 100 feet in front of me, just jump out.

Right when I saw it come out from under the guardrail, I was like, 'That's a coyote.'"

"It just started smoking like crazy," Coleman said. "And it smelled terrible.

I didn't see anything in the mirror, so I was like, 'I wonder where it went?'

I said, 'Guys, I hit a coyote. I'm going to come in because I think it screwed up the radiator.

I think it clogged up the grille a little bit.'"

THIS IS GRAPHIC!

ALSO GRAPHIC!
