MotoGP

OK, Rossi is the best ever (so far) so I guess you should try what he does if you want to be faster but I don't understand the corner entrance with the leg hanging out (off the peg). Stoner now does it, Enzo does it (although he doesn't find himself going any faster) and I bet soon everyone will be doing it.

I bet when Kenny Roberts ( a once fastest guy, for all you youngsters) first started dragging his knee everyone wondered why too.

Extra braking power (wind resistance, foot scraping) on left corners, I guess.

yeah I noticed that Rossi started doing that as well, I was wondering wtf he was doing. Maybe airing out the boys or stretching the leg from cramps? heh heh

I've heard a few theories about why he does it: reposition foot on the peg, changing center of gravity..who knows.

I'd love to see a video explaining why he does it.

I've accidentally done it before ;-)

I'd guess that it seems to help his balance under hard braking.

As a side note, after Le Mans and Mugello, is it safe to say that Melandri is the best wet weather racer out there?

I think someone bet him a few years ago that he couldn't get other riders to do something silly on the bike. Now not only are other MotoGP riders doing it, but I've seen it in WSBK and AMA. DiSalvo did it a few weeks ago at Infineon. Jason - you're not as fast as Rossi, really.

Now's the perfect time for Valentino to issue a press release laughing at those he's gotten to play Simon Says with him.

He's been asked about it numerous times, and he's never given a clear and concise answer about exactly why he started to do that, he just says that it feels more comfortable in hard braking zones coming up to tight turns. First time it got a bunch of press was in Jerez 2005 when his foot came off when he passed Gibernau on the final corner of the race, knocking Sete off into the gravel. The press thought that the foot coming off showed a lack of control when going for that pass, but it became apparent afterwards that he was doing that several times earlier in that same race as well as some prior races.

And of course Roberts rode those crazy 2 stroke Yammie TZ's. Lightswitch powerband and the suspension and frame design way lacking the bike's power, not to mention those older brakes.

I've heard they do this on left turns so they don't accidently hit the shift lever while breaking... But I'm not sure that sounds right... Rossi probably started doing it 'cause it looks "cool". He IS that type of rider :P

I remember the commentators saying exactly that during one of the Moto GP races earlier this year. Who knows what the physics behind it are, but if he feels more comfortable doing it, then it obviously helps.

That last race was pretty crazy with all the position changes huh? I was really hoping Melandri could hold onto his position after he switched to his dry bike.

Well that explained it perfectly. I'll be practicing tomorrow (it might be the next day, I'm not sure).
