I have mine but I am in Kentucky where it is a simple process as long as you are not a criminal. In California I hear it varies from area to area and local law enforcement.

I live in a county where its very possible to get it. Just wondering if anyone in CA has one... looks like it might be pricey :/ I doubt Ill carry much. I just want the option. Also you cant be on medication so that rules me out carrying it most of the time. (I take prozac for my anxiety disorder)

It's 10 days to get a handgun. And if you live a in a county with a reasonable sheriff, then self protection is a good enough reason. Here in San Jose you need to be a jeweler who carries millions of dollars of precious gems in your pocket in order to get one.
The stats for san jose are close to 1 million people living here, 118 civilians with a CCW Also, do yourself a favor and get a sexy 1911

10 day wait on all CA compliant firearms.. up to a year wait and the right connections for a CA non-compliant fire arm..
I live in Los Angeles and have almost no chance of a CCW..

I would look into a Glock 27 or a 23 if you can carry a gun that size. I personally usually carry my Ruger LCP because it is so easy to conceal. I have found easy to carry usually means I WILL have it on me. Really is a personal choice. I don't find the ballistics of the .380 a distractor especially if it means that I WILL be carrying it.

My dad has one and I plan to get one as soon as I'm 21. According to my dad Lee Baca will sign off in LA if you list "I carry large amounts of money" as your reason. That's what he put down, apparently they don't even investigate to see if your justification is true.

I can't chime much on how to get your CCW in Calif, but I do have a pretty widespread handgun knowledge. Your best bet for knowledge on the CCW is to find the California Concealed Carry forum and go to the faq. It will more than likely have a step by step to get it easily.
Gun wise, shoot shoot and shoot again any and every gun you can. $50 in rentals to find exactly what you want/can shoot is definetly worth it, more than taking a $100 hit to sell it and buy what you do want. Also, look for safely features you might want. Do you need a manuel safety? Want a magazine disconnect so your gun can't fire the the magazine out of it? How about a backstrap safety (1911, Springfield XD, etc.)? Do you just want of to go bang when you pull the trigger (Glock, Ruger LCP, Kahr PM9, etc.). 1911's look gorgeous, but not to practical in todays polymer world. I personally have a Glock 19, Glock 23, and Ruger 22/45 (.22 for plinking). I compete in IDPA with the 19, carry the 23, and love how cheap and fun the .22 is to shoot. Is recommend getting a few books that help solidify why you should carry, and they give you other reasons to answer than because I want to protect myself (which is 100% fine). Lessons from Armed America and the Concealed Carry Manuel (Chris Bird) are two great ones. Last futzed with by ryanG19; February 23rd, 2012 at 07:49 AM. Reason: typo |

as far as pistols I went to the local gun store yesterday, and found some good stuff. I found the Springfield XD series that I was looking at. The compact and subcompact. I really liked them both. I have TINY hands for a male... So the subcompact felt pretty good in my hands. I also saw a Ruger I liked a lot. Keep in mind these are all me liking the LOOKS and FEEL of the guns, as I have not fired any of them. My buddy has the Springfield .40 XD subcompact that he is finally bringing up from his old place next month. So I will probably be cheap and wait to see how it feels when I shoot it. He has nothing but praise for that gun, so Im pretty encouraged on it. While I do like Glocks, They dont feel as good in my hand and they seem a little fatter? Im not sure. Maybe ill go back and feel them again. anyways basically this will be my first (hopefully not last) pistol. I want to get one that is reliable, fun to shoot, and fairly easy to conceal. next gun Id like to get is an AR-15 or M1A. I need to get ready for the zombie apocalypse!!!

I've had my CHL for about two years now, but here in Texas everyone has a gun on them anyways. Paid $72 for the class, $200 (if i remember correctly) to the state, and about a month and a half later I got my license in the mail. I carry my PT709 9mm Slim with me majority of the time since it is small and easy to conceal. Even though I cannot conceal it, I love my newest edition of guns, my 5.56 AR-15.

You can also open carry an unloaded pistol as long as the magazines are 18 inches away from the gun. This is a good way to get mugged.

I hope you end up going through with this. I always encourage people to carry as it's your RIGHT and could save you/your family from serious harm. I hold a CHP for Virginia and Washington State but mainly have them for the added perks. I open carry everywhere all the time, gotta love VA.

lol... Hi-Points are file down and throw away pistols thats why its less then $200... i would not trust my life or my wifes life on a low cost firearm..
have you shot a .45 in a sub-compact frame before.. for me, the recoil is too much.. not that my hands go flyin like a noob but that it take longer then i like to reset the trigger get back on target and set off the next round..
