250 cafe racer

hey my brother just showed me this. This site is actually one of the reasons i wanted a rebel 250 lol but this seems pretty cool. I know a lot of people have been doing this on their own, but soon the mechanically apprehensive can have a custom 250 as well.

Nice! Book marked for if I ever wreck at the track.

That tail and side panels would let me hide all my EFI wiring crap just as well as the stock body panels. And it doesn't look like it's been wrecked Great find.

I just read the product description. I am VERY impressed.
I just built a cafe racer. They did all the hard stuff for you. This is a very complete kit. And very high quality. With powder coated parts the fender's and side panels are made of aluminum. Not fiberglass or plastic.
I have a 1988 with high mileage. The bike is perfect ,but has a tick in the engine that might be the clutch basket. I restored the bike to original condition. It will go through inspection with no problem then I could do this kit.

If the inspection, tax and tags cost 350 dollars and the kit is 1500. I got the bike free and had to spend money to get it together, about 2500 invested in a fun bike. I think I could sell it for that and get my money back. no profit or pay for time. But It would be fun.

anyone interested in a set of 2001 fairings or a set of 1988 fairings? Complete undamaged fairing sets cheap.

Quite honestly I really think something like is could be really great. I would love to pick up a pregen that had been put down and had junk plastics and do something like this with it. Not sure about $1500 but it doesn't seem all that unreasonable

Yepp, this picture did it for me. If I ever wreck bad, I'm getting this kit, and painting it Kawasaki green to match my tank:

I would keep my current tires and exhaust though. I love the side panels and tank shrouds

That's the picture I like the best. I am thinking black with a red frame and wheels. I just need to get my 1988 running and inspected first,

I love the kit too it's looks real solid but dam 1500 seems a biiit steep. some of us paid that much for the bike. Hopefully they sell individual parts like the seat bracket and tail section and pannels sepearte like their other kits but hey it'll give me a reason to save up again lol

Yeah, join the club. I've got just as much money into parts for my bike as I paid for the bike in the first place. Worth it? Definitely.

That's actually a good price for what you get, especially the instrument bezel (which is a little large for my tastes, but looks to be good quality) the seat support structure, the bodywork and the lights.

A new 7" headlight, taillight and turn signals alone will retail for at least $150, and any decent-quality upholstered cafe seat costs at least $150.

And their kit includes a new front tire, another $100.

Keep in mind that you should be able to get $300 or more for your old bodywork, seat and lights.

Given all that, it's a good price for the kit.

I like how they've apparently used the existing frame lugs (where the tank and the rear seat latch are located) to mount their seat platform, giving the seat a lower, more classic profile without requiring any tube bending or welding on the owner's part.

$1500 for that. That is stupid. How you gonna call it a cafe racer if it doesn't even come with clip-on's.

You could build a much better looking cafe racer for much cheaper.

For example...

Yeah, it's not gonna be easy but part of the fun is building it yourself. Learning new things about yourself and your bike.

"better looking" is subjective here. That's nice but I think the kit looks better. You can certainly do something similar yourself for a fraction of the price though.

I'm trying to talk myself into the kit for $1500.

I paid $1000 for my bike with 2500 miles on the clock, two and a half seasons ago.

I ask myself if I would buy a bike like the one in the photo for $2500???

The answer is Heck Yea. Now to start saving.

I noticed that they listed needing a 1998-2007 Ninja 250. I wonder if that is a typo because there really is no difference from 1988 to 2007. I'll email the company for clarification.

blue collar kit

Just wanted to let you guys know that I contacted blue collar bobbers and they will not sell individual pieces of the kit. There reasoning they gave me is that they worked soo hard to develope an attractive, quality bolt on kit and they are too proud of the complete package to piece it out. Too bad because that seat pan, guage cluster, and side pieces are sexy!

Yes, they responded saying it was just a typo (I noticed they did that on the video part also). Plus, elsewhere in the ad is listed needing the '88-'07.

You could build a much better looking cafe racer for much cheaper.

For example...

What tank is this? And how much work did you need to do to get it to fit? This is what I am looking for, as I don't want to build around the stock tank.

Looking to get a tank like yours, build a custom tail/seat, make some covers for the side electrics and coolant tank, and then fit a vintage style cafe front fairing. This is for a race/track bike though, so I need to keep the stock airbox.

Also noticed there is someone posting here as StephenA with nickname Stimpee. Funny I am posting as Stimpee but my real name is Stephen A!

Weird...

They put a lot of work into this bike. It wasn't just a simple piece together. That seat is freaking awesome though. Bamboo? Who the hell does that!?

very true, but a lot of people don't have the means or know how to do a build for themselves. Like myself i am slightly mechanically inclined and very good at working with my hands but lack the experience to do a job like this on my own. im sure with research and time it can be done.

You realize that quote is 2 years old right? Ha, that's ok, your point remains true and I was thinking the same thing. I myself work as a diesel mechanic, but I do not do body work and certainly don't do custom work like this, so my knowledge and experience in this area is very limited. I removed the cowl and covers, and am already stuck until I figure out my next step.

I do really like that kit, but $1500 is a bit steep for me. I wish they would part it out, I would love to get that seat and rear end and the side covers, , and maybe the gauge cluster, but figure out the rest on my own.

same here. I think they are really missing the boat by not offering separate pricing.

BCB not selling individual parts...still

Just following up on this old thread: as of about 4 weeks ago I confirmed BCB is still not selling individual parts of their cafe kit.

I'm not a business man but if they sell a few parts for $50 here, $25 there, $80 there, etc. it still amounts to more than ZERO. If anything, sell the parts individually totaling more than the kit price that way it will be a better value and discourage potential customers from purchasing the kit part-by-part.
