Well then, I look like an don't I?
My apologies! Carb work is still a very good skill for a carb bike rider to have. Everyone should at least give it a whack so they know how it all works and how the changes affect their bike. |

Jetting my carbs requires a whole lot more. I'll do it eventually but the bike is fine how it is. As long as I do not see a significant difference in power when I ride with the new slip on, then it's fine. Why do people like to rain on other's parades?

But it's not a waste of money. What? Is anything spent on anything besides performance/maintenance a waste of money? I guess fixing cracks in your bike or scratches, etc. is waste of money because it doesn't actually do anything right? I want to make Amy mine, I want to customize her the way I want to. I don't like how she whispers, I want a roar. Most people do. It's not a waste of money to me, and that's the only person I care about, is what I think not what you think.

You should learn how to work on your carb (which is easy, but just a pain to remove and put back). Why? Because it costs about $500 for a mechanic to clean/tune it.

Update: Slip on is INSTALLED and man oh man she sounds great! I love it! As for the performance, you know what. She seems more torquey than before. The throttle response is MUCH better. I'm not sure if any real power was gained, but I can say that she didn't lose any power. If anything, she gained it. I'm very happy with my purchase and can fully recommend this slip on.
Note: The slip on came with a silencer which I had installed, without the silencer I have no idea how the bike will act, I am only going by the basis of having the silencer installed. Rating: (first impressions, will edit later if need be) 5/5 for looks. Ooo, shiny 0_0 5/5 for sounds. Aggressive, loud and turns heads. I love it! It could be a tiny bit quieter but it's not that loud either so it doesn't sound rice to me. 5/5 for performance. (I give it 5/5 because even though it didn't add any HP, it did add throttle response which was not expected from this slip on, also I didn't have to rejet!) 4/5 for install. The directions were absolutely crap, the clamp that was included was horrible as well. I would give 3/5 because of those reasons but I give it 4/5 since I didn't have to mess with the carbs.

Yeah, I don't know of any slip-ons that you would have to rejet unless you do other mods like remove airbox etc. |

hahaha, I was thinking the same thing when I was looking at the photo.
They definitely need to go. I'm going to buy some green rim tape to substitute them.

Because running an engine without enough fuel in the mixture under load creates hot exhaust. Hot exhaust can cause problems long term. Stock jetting is already iffy in smoothness. Knowing how much better it can be with an hour or two of labor for your first time, I cannot see how anyone would NOT want to improve their jetting.
If you're afraid of messing it up, hit up forceofwill, he knows what he's doing, has offered to help, and is close to you. |

It makes noise. That's it. You could have done that for free by removing your intake snorkel and gotten a much nicer roar under load. It would sound nicer than the farty slipon without annoying every neighbor. But that would have required some needle shimming. Yes, I'm slightly hypocritical. I have a full exhaust and pod filter. I wish my bike were silent. I love the power and throttle response though. The time spent on jetting and analyzing every combo of needle height and jet size I could was worth the result. Quote:
But you're still $200 lighter, all in the name of sound. |

I think you should get your carbs tuned anyway.
The stock jets are kinda lean.
