Very Impressed so Far

I only have about 10 miles on my bike, but I have to say it is a blast to ride and I actually feel confident on it. No, I'm not crazy about it having such a tiny engine and sounding like a kitchen blender, but I think its a good trade for:

1. Being able to actually push the thing around the garage without killing myself.

2. Having a super small turning radius

3. An engine that was made so that normal people can work on it

4. Having a ton of cool aftermarket parts

5. Looking so darn sexy

I've kind of gone backwards from a 1200 to a 250, but I think this bike is a great fit for me.

Um... no you haven't.

Wait till you ride around at 9k and above in the twisties... you'll never want to get off that thing.

Nothing I would call twisty. A friend of mine always characterized this area as "so flat you can stand in a field and see the back of your own head." There were no natural impediments when they built the roads so they just kept going straight until the hit the next town. I have to take it back to Traverse City up in the pinky to find some curves. I would characterize that area as "uphill in every direction, coming and going."

Thomas, I don`t think that going from a 1200 is a step down. A 250 is a much more reasonable machine. I have been riding 50 years and have had some big bikes. The Ninja 250 has to be the best bike I have ever had.

whoa.........you have never owned a Yamaha Virago then Partner! My Ninja is a beautiful thing, but my Yami actually has better engineering, steerability, repairbility and long haul useability. Not to mention that the candy plum skin brings back memories of the early 70's. Ah...to each their own.

I was looking at the Kawi version, the Vulcan 500, if I didn't get the Ninja, those look like a lot fun, laid back cruising. What size is the engine?

Cruisers just aren't my thing. They look cool, but it strikes me as rolling down the road on a couch. Give me a sport bike or a dirt bike.

As for size, I don't feel a need to compensate for anything

My little Ninja hauls my 200 pounds around like I weighed 50, gives me the grins on twisty roads, cost $4000 brand new, has excellent fuel economy, and comes with cheap insurance. It also looks sexy as hell. Gotta love it.

It's not going backwards, the 1200 and the Ninja are just different. I just sold my 2005 Harley Heritage to buy a Ninja 250 (should be ready to pick up next Saturday). I loved the Harley, but I bet you I'll have a lot more FUN on the Ninja!!
Besides, for what I got for the Harley I paid cash for the Ninja and new gear, putting a new roof on the house and taking 2weeks for a scuba vacation Take care and enjoy!!

Yeah, I knew I made a mistake the first week I had the Harley. I am totally sport bike. Too heavy, too long, all torque and no HP. Yes, they are more comfortable on a long ride, but it's like going from a Porsche to a monster truck. Totally different crowd.
