'06 won't run when kickstand is down even in neutral

Something I'm missing? Something faulty? It's slightly annoying lol.

Oh and if it's some kind of switch make sure and let me know where it's located so I can see the dumb thing. Nothing major just annoying.

Does the starter crank the engine? Does pulling the clutch lever make a difference? Your kill switch is in the run position, right?

Yep kill switch in run position. No engine doesn't crank it doesn't do anything like it's a safety feature that might be faulty. Need to check out an '06 owners manual perhaps and see how the thing operates. I mean I get how it's supposed to work but if she's in neutral then it shouldn't engage. You know what this makes no sense but I started the bike today while I was off of it. Did it a few times. So I'm thinking it's some kind of weight sensor that won't allow it to run with me on it and the kick stand down. I'll test this theory out tomorrow afternoon when I get off work. Pretty sure that's it.

Actually that helps and is really great info to have. Thank you. I'm gonna test out my theory that it's when I'm sitting on the bike. If I'm not on the bike she will run with the kick stand down and in neutral. And it makes sense since it's trying to protect me not neccesarily the bike. I'll know tomorrow afternoon.

There is no seat switch. Maybe a wire with bare insulation shorting when you sit though.

Yeah, your weight is loading up the kickstand differently than when you're off. The switch may not be aligned properly or is defective (or wiring).

Here's a test:

1. Unplug kickstand switch
2. Bend a paperclip into U-shape
3. Plug it to bridge two terminals on harness-side connector
4. Try starting with kickstand up, down, you on or off bike. Neat huh?

A paper clip? Hell yes that's neat. lol
I'll give it a try when I get home and report back. Someone is selling their '06 636 on facebook and they have the exact same issue. Said I would check with you guys and give him an answer. Thanks man. Seems like it's somewhat of a common issue but no one really has an answer.
