Ninjette = Tax Credit?

I was doing my income tax this afternoon and fell on a section that offers a credit for vehicles consuming 3-5 L/100 KM, the Ninjette falls in this category, so I added the plate # and info.. the result was a 2000 $ refund added to my deductions! Can anyone in Canada confirm if this is correct?

I know in the US you can get a tax credit if you bought a NEW bike.

Update: I looked between the fine print and here is it... guess we wont be included in this deal...

Recognized fuel-efficient vehicle

A four-wheel vehicle that meets all of the following conditions:

The vehicle is:
  • powered entirely or partly by gasoline or diesel;
  • in the case of a hybrid vehicle, powered partly by gasoline or diesel and partly by electricity; or
  • powered by a source of energy other than fuel (as in the case of a low-speed vehicle).
With respect to a vehicle powered entirely or partly by gasoline or diesel, or a hybrid vehicle powered partly by one of these fuels and partly by electricity, the weighted fuel consumption rating is
  • no more than 5.27 litres per 100 kilometres for a vehicle using gasoline;
  • no more than 4.54 litres per 100 kilometres for a vehicle using diesel.

The vehicle is registered or deemed registered for the first time in Québec and has never been registered outside Québec, unless it was registered outside Québec with a temporary in-transit registration so that the vehicle could be brought into Québec immediately after the transfer of possession.

The vehicle was not acquired for resale or long-term leasing.

If the vehicle is acquired or leased on a long-term basis by an eligible person, the vehicle is registered in the name of that person, who may be the owner, co-owner or long-term lessee of the vehicle.

If the vehicle is acquired or leased on a long-term basis by a partnership, the vehicle is registered in the name of one of the partners.

The U.S. sales tax credit is only for the year 2009. It was buried into an Obama mandate. Can be used for only new bikes purchased in 2009 and was being used as a sales pitch by bike dealers. I waited until the very last day of the year, purchased a new 2009 Vulcan-900 classic with 2,000 off the OTD and the additional "sales tax credit" that could be applied. Great deal and took advantage of that right off....

Go tell your H&R Block people to read the IRS link.

"Qualified motor vehicles generally include new cars, light trucks, motor homes and motorcycles.

To qualify for the deduction, the new cars, light trucks and motorcycles must weigh 8,500 pounds or less. Motor homes are not subject to the weight limit.

Purchases must occur after Feb. 16, 2009, and before Jan. 1, 2010."

Well it doesn't say on my registration that it is a 4 or 2 wheeled vehicle so how could they prove this unless they audit me and come to see "my fuel effecient vehicle". This is not fair because for some ppl this is their only form of transportation in the nice season.

Here in Ontario our plates' template is different on bikes than is is cars.

Cars would have ABCD 123 where bikes are 1234A so if someone was vigilant at revenue Canada, there might be an issue.
