kawasaki shows how lame a stock 650 sounds!

http://ninjastreet.kawasaki.com/Home...reetMicrosite#

I go to their 650 advertisement site and watch the video and I can not help but think this does not do the 650 justice and I wouldnt want one after checking out this promo

am I wrong?

I dunno I think the video shows exactly what you would be doing with that bike. Wouldnt make much sense to show it tearing up the track or ripping around at crazy speeds. Thats what the zx6r, 10r, and 14r are for

Your wrong.

I found nothing wrong with the video. It is a parallel twin, that is how they sound. It sounds like a bigger ninjette.

What's the problem??

I don't see anything wrong with the video. I believe it makes the point of a commuting bike with some added sport flavoring.

Personally I would rather go with the Yamaha FZ6R.

I thought it was a cool ad. I just think the stock handle bars look ridiculous.

I am not trying to hate ... The music , exhaust note and video didn't say "seduction" to me :/

I couldn't even hear the exhaust in most of the vid ...

I like the gauge cluster on the bike . Real compact with a lot of options

And why can't I find a video for the 250 on their site ?

it's probably better to listen to the real thing instead of a commercial or a Youtube video for this matter, but here it is

sounds fine to me.

They really take some getting used to. I didn't like them at first but now I don't even notice them. And the dealer was telling me that having one bar is good for something, I don't remember tho lol

Could always swap the stock bar for a Renthal variant. Still a one piece unit but more aggressive application.

The handle bar change was primarily to provide the comfort of rubber mounted bars from my understanding. I do like the new body styling but the tail fairing is still not my favorite .

You mean the fender or the actual tail fairing?

Basically I don't like how the fairing color and style is broken up between the tail and tank with those black plastic parts I would want those painted or a bit larger rear fairing

I have some kind of overly critical problem with the 650 haha

Some people just don't like the 650's. In my opinion it looks ok but I just hate the gas tank and tail section. Looks "wonky" to me. I wish Kawi just put it on a bigger 250 model then it would be attractive to me.

Unfortunately it does. Luckily the 'sports bar' is easy/cheap to find. I've just heard you have to lower the front end in order to install them (clearance)

The think I like about mine is that it seems to have two personalities. If you keep the revs in the 4-6k range, it performs well in city traffic. If you rev it to 8-11k, it gets pretty darned zippy. Not as zippy as a 600, but very respectable. Of course the last 600 I rode didn't want to cruise without loping below 80mph. It's not a racer, but it's a really good commuter.

Honestly, I see no reason to buy a 600cc/1000cc SS unless it's a track bike anyways. I think the 650r is logically a smart second bike for me for 2up or distance. I've talked about it here before and even after riding a few other bikes my opinion of the 650r grows fonder and fonder.

I've also heard that in terms of acceleration, the 650r can outdo a 600cc ss with a good launch. No idea how true it is, but I've seen videos/posts of sub4 second 0-60 on the 650r (not that it's important, just throwing it out there)

I loved the sound of my Versys. It had a nice throaty growl when you get on it. Maybe it didn't sound good to people on the street, but from on the bike it was great. That's what matters to me anyway.

Honestly, I feel that way about my 250r. I LOVVVEEE the sound while I'm on it but when I hear it go past.. I don't really like it.

My friends 650r that I'm picking up tomorrow has a nice yoshi pipe

I test road a versys and I guess I have to agree while I was ridding that bike I had nothing but good things to say about it now that I am in a puffy chair sitting at home I am a critic lol

I want a z750 for a two up sport cruiser even though it has no wind protection I just like the detained inline four sport touring /

If I got a deal on a 650 I would be on here talking about how it's the bet bike ever.... Unfortunately for me they hold their value . Go fig it must be good

I test rode the 650 at this year's Kawi Demo Day. I was seriously considering it as my next bike for all kinds of logical reasons.

Note that I say "was." I came away underwhelmed. My 250R has tons more soul than that bike. Admittedly, my ninjette is modified with full exhaust, jetted, K&N, clip-ons, rearset adjusters.... It's entirely possible that with appropriate tweaks the 650 would wake up, but I'm not so sure.

The whole time I was riding the 650 I couldn't help but think how appliance-like it is. It was like operating a sewing machine (and yes, I have operated a sewing machine). Competent for getting from point A to point B with minimum fuss. Very polite. Very smooth. Very quiet. Very dull. Kind of like a scooter in terms of the riding experience.

I also rode a ZX6R, which was my first experience on a supersport. Much more what I personally think motorcycling is about. To me, riding isn't just transportation. That's what I've got a car for. Riding a bike is an exercise in skill, aesthetics and in-the-moment experiences.

I should note here that I rode the 650 first and had those thoughts BEFORE I rode the ZX6R. It wasn't that the 650 was pale by comparison, it's that it didn't do it for me in the first place.

The 650 is a fine bike for its intended purpose. I didn't really notice anything wrong with it. But it didn't move me.

We're all different in what we want from a motorcycle. I ride hard but safe. I get my jollies not from speed, power or noise, but from perfectly executed riding. That can be as much fun 45 mph as at 100. If I hit that exit ramp exactly right, nail my braking and turn-in points, blip-downshift flawlessly and ride the perfect line, I'm a happy guy. So the whole sport-bike experience for me isn't about going fast or having huge horsepower.

But it very much is about how the bike feels -- what it's like to ride. I'd LOVE it if Kawi made a true sportbike with a 250 or 400 in it.

How in the world is the seat even remotely like an HD?

The new seat on the 650 is almost identical to the seat used on the 2005-2010 ZZR600. The shape, the cushion, the depth, just about all of it resembles the seat on those bikes and nothing from HD. The handlebars used are more like dirtbike handlebars than anything else, again, not much like HD.

__________________________________________________________________

Having test road both a 2011 and a 2012 650 I have to say that the new model is a big improvement from the old. I was getting saddle-sore from just the 30min test ride on the 2011 due to the worthless banana seat. The new seat however would definitely allow me to ride virtually all day. I don't agree with it feeling lifeless and w/o character, but as was said, everyone is different. I also wouldn't call it smooth either. It is far from smooth compared to some bikes from Yamaha and Honda. I test road a FJR1300, a bike so smooth it felt like I was riding an electric bike with no vibrations and no clunking or clicking in the transmission between gears. The 650 is closer to the 250 (mostly the pregen, or closely to the stock newgen) than anything else in my opinion.
