Back Protector inserts - Page 2

John,

I'm still using the dual ply foam that came stock in my Joe Rocket Phoenix, but looking to move up to the Sas-Tech. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, what are the overall dimensions of the protector (I presume you are using the 1/12 model)? I'm trying to see what I'd need to do to trim it.

I have a Joe Rocket Mesh jacket, and it fits without any issues... It fits all my jackets very well... I switch jacket a lot, and it's very easy to take the pad out, and put in other jackets...

13in wide,18 1/2 long, and 1in thick...

Very good pad that can be worn 100% of the time... Easily worth the $45...

Thanks, John. I'm going to pick one up for sure. 1/2 the price of the Joe Rocket specific insert, and looks to be better quality. Can you confirm what size you got that works so well in your Joe Rocket. The 1/12 model? 1/11?

Gear report...

I have the Sac-Teck in my First Gear mesh jacket and it's been great in the Texas heat... I wear the jacket with no shirt when the weather is 90f+, and the Sac-Teck is fine even in 100f+...

I personally use the KNOX TP2 insert in my REV'IT AIR mesh jacket and I picked it over the sas-teck purely because of weight. The TP2 is practically weightless. Either one is definitely better than the usual medium density foam though.

You're right... Riders you have to get that foam out of your jacket asap... Protect your spine...

Enjoying a SAS-TEC now, partially thanks to this thread. Size 1/12 fits my REV'IT Turbine perfectly. Very comfortable on, doesn't feel heavy at all, and it molds to my back. Really just like wearing the foam insert, with one exception.

It doesn't breathe as well as the foam insert. In hot weather, I definately sweat under the SAS-TEC, even in an incredibly breathable jacket. It is still totally worthwhile, and provides important safety upgrades without noticeable weight or other discomfort, but I suspect this is the reason that heavier back armor doesn't come in most jackets. It is hot.
