Thumbs down What the hell! Riders charged in Tomizawa's death

Moto2 racers Alex de Angelis and Scott Redding are being charged with manslaughter by the Itilian courts for contributing to the death of a racer, according to reports in Italian media.

Here is a translation of the article:

"Today while waiting for autopsy was performed on the body of Shoyo Tomizawa, died on Sunday at Misano Adriatico (Rimini) during the Grand Prix of San Marino in category Moto2. The examination, performed by the expert of the Court, confirmed that the cause of death was crushing the rib cage. In addition, the file concerning the American pilot Scott Redding, who was charged with culpable homicide along with San Marino's Alex de Angelis was submitted by the public prosecutor of Rimini at the Juvenile Court of Bologna, has jurisdiction since the American rider, Brugioni defended by Luke, is a minor."

Yea, like those two had a chance to change the outcome of Shoyo's crash. It is bad enough that Scott and Alex both have to live with the horror of what happeded but now to be charged!!!

Pisses me off.

First off this is bullshit...you race, you know of the ultimate consequences, how can someone be charged of manslaughter if there was no criminal motif? ...not to mention they crashed too

I was watching the race...basically Tomizama low sided on a tight turn and lost it, Scott and Alex were behind one another and basically ran him over, right on his torso. It's not like it was their fault, they had nowhere else to go. It was either hit him or the bike.

I'll see if i can't find a clip

EDIT: Found the clip:

hrmm..cant seem to embed it...heres a direct link http://ajjugee.blogspot.com/2010/09/...acer-dies.html scroll down a little bit ull see it.

Unbelievable.

So many tragedies this year, it's just so sad.

I challenge those pressing charges to miss a crash dummy falling right in front of them on a bike at that speed and see if they can avoid it. Oh they can't? Guess it ain't manslaughter then. He went down RIGHT in front of them, they could not have avoided him. It's just a tragic accident in a dangerous sport. They didn't cause him to go down, they aim for him, they had the blink of an eye to even realize what happened.

edited: Was pointed out that I accidentally made it look like I might have been calling Tomizawa a dummy for falling, that was not my intent.

I'm sure you ment dummy as is crash test dummy.

Yep, they only had the blink of an eye to react.

I hope the MOTOGP organziation aka Dorna steps up and challenges the courts on behalf of the riders.

RIP to our fallen brother.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. I wouldn't want them to reenact that crash with a live person to try an avoid. Have them reenact that crash with those prosecuting as the riders and a crash dummy of some sort to drop in front of them the way he did and see how well they do.

And I know he wasn't being a dummy by going down. My apologies if that's how it sounded.

Question

The problem is that every country has its own convoluted legal system---guess that is the reason for international lawyers. Any death in racing is a tragedy. Racers are certainly cognizant about the risks--now, lawyers and bureaucrats who know squat about racing , will judge and assign fault. That makes it a double tragedy.

Alex, that is good news. I can only imagine what Alex de Angelis and Scott Redding are going through, let alone, only to have criminal charges brought against them.

I'm sure all the riders have waivers of liability in case of death, dismemberment and such so there's no way these charges will stick.

The charges should get dropped, there was almost no way they could avoid hitting him at the speeds they were going. The other racers almost immediately crashed with him.
