08-12 gas tank on pregen
All, I apologize for asking this but I'm not finding it with my search for some reason. There was a thread on these forums where someone was going through installing a 08-12 gas tank on a pregen frame. It was a thread I had found in a random search on google originally that brought me to these forums. Now I cannot seem to find it and not sure what I'm doing different in my search. Can anyone help direct me to this thread again please? Thanks in advance.

It can be done, but the petcock bumps into frame tube. Solution:
- cut and braze petcock port into different location on tank or - cut and weld frame-tube into different position Due to lack of aftermarket race-fairings, I'm going to use newgen bodywork on my 2002 bike. Since everything attaches to tank, I'm going to use newgen tank as well. EDIT: I think I found threads you're referring to: https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=119615 https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=118238 https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47456 |

Very interesting idea and I can't wait to see how it comes out. I wanted clip-ons for my pregen track bike so I run it without the front fairing. As chunky as I am on that bike, the fairing is probably good for another second or so if I had it back on.

Here's an article on soldering new gas-cap onto old tank. I would do similar procedure using brass-brazing with petcock (stronger joint, non-toxic).

Those were the threads I saw before. Not sure why I couldn't find them now. Thank you very much sir! My gas tank is now leaking and it's ugly anyhow for my project. When wasn't looking for a tank two weeks ago, there was a dozen pregen's on ebay. Now I look and I found two... one in worse shape than mine other than it doesn't leak for 149 bucks and another that looks sweet for 300 bucks.. ouch.

I’ve also heard that lead time can be long and the quality can be variable. It’d be nice to be able to take advantage of more common fairings (and tire sizes too, but that is another story).

Understood on the liquid containment although I hadn't really thought about it much. You would think that if it's okay to use OEM fairings to track it, you wouldn't have such a requirement on the race fairings.

Change out front end and wheels... that's what I'm doing for 17" tire selections.
