I got messed up

Last night I was riding with a couple friends and next thing you know, I'm waking up with bad back pain this morning and I can't remember anything.

My buddies say I was trying to keep up with another guy in the group and my friend saw my lights in a ditch and I was moaning and groaning.

I found out I got a concussion and 2 fractured vertabrets. Had on helmet and my dainese riding jacket and my boots and blue jeans(thankfully no leg injuries at all)

No one technically saw it happened but my friend thinks I high sided and went over my bars. One of the guys behind me saw my headlights in the ditch. I bet that I looked off the road and followed my line of sight straight into the ditch.

Pain pills are kicking in now. Not sure about my bike, haven't seen it yet.

Ride safe everyone, seeing your loved ones so upset can be heartbreaking.

I'll update back in a bit.

Ouch!! Take care and heal up quick.

Hopefully some clues will come to light as to what happened so this can be a learning experience for your riding.

Wow! That's quite a story. Waking up injured and not even remembering what happened.

Let's hope that you're feeling better very soon.

Group-night riding is not healthy.

That is a serious injury; my best wishes for clean healing.

I woke up at home but I had been in the hospital from around 10pm to 4am.

Back injuries sure do suck but head injuries are even worst. Judging by my helmet mark on my head, I am almost sure I would have died if I wouldn't have had it on.

Doing better today, still a little sore. For having a broken back, I can walk pretty damn good. Besides my lip and back, there is literally no other sign of injury anywhere; no scratches or anything. My jacket and helmet saved my life.

Here is a picture of my helmet:

Ok here is some of the damage. Progressive said the adjuster will be here Friday to check out the bike. All the plastics need to be replaced and also one thing not pictured is the right handle bar is bent and loose.

Do you guys think it will be totaled or not?

Hmm! That looks like a lot of money's worth of damage. But, I suppose that if the frame is OK, they won't write it off.

Insurance is funny. YMMV but here in Nevada a vehicle is totalled if the repair costs over 65% of the value. Kawasaki is REALLY proud of their plastics so those are a huge bite into the repair costs. Plus all the rinky things that also need replacing (turn signals, mirrors, pegs/levers(?), handlebar).

Keep your fingers crossed.

I wish my fairings were like yours after my crash. You can definitely fix a large portion of the fairings though repainting it might be a pain. In my opinion, it still looks pretty darn solid. Grab some fiberglass, slap it on the back of the fairings and call it a day.

The gas tank's going to a pain though. Either find someone here selling it, ebay, CL, or something. I called to see how much an OEM tank is and was told it's $490! On the other hand, it doesn't look punctured so you can still run it. The brackets are misaligned though so that might be an issue with the side fairing.

I haven't read the entire thread but does it run?

Forgot to mention, yes it does run. Also I doubt I have the skills to repair the fairings. I am pretty much hoping it gets totaled. I will get MSRP value for the bike if it does indeed get totaled.

Oh, right.

Gotta change my reaction then.

Oh mah lawd....There are like 200 dents on that frame and the forks, not the forks!

There we go. Now go get that fat check.

Haha you just made me crack up man. Yea since it's less than a year old, I could get total loss coverage which made it MSRP price instead of actual value. The kawasaki site says the MSRP for my bike is 4199.00 which is over a grand what I paid for it

Definitely a nice fat check.

Yeah, I'm hoping I get something out of my crash too but we'll see.

Insurance adjuster came today. Totaled my bike.. Got 2 checks; 1 for the bike and 1 for the accessories. I got 4199.00 for my bike and 7xx for my helmet, slip on, and LED kit. After tax, I got 5338.20$ Didn't have to pay the deductible since it was a total loss.

On top of that, the spine specialist said I was fine. He said football players often see the same kind of spinal damage from a hard hit. He said I don't have any restrictions and to just take it easy. I also get my stitches out today. What a crazy week...

Yea I made out good. Thanks guys. I'm lucky to be alive that's for sure. I would love to get another bike right now but for my families sake, it will have to wait until next year. My family went through a lot seeing me all wrapped up waiting for my CT scans to come back and show nothing was wrong. Plus school is starting next week so priorities soon will change.

Indiana is beautiful this time of year and I can honesty say I'm depressed as I see others out enjoying everything. My dad passed away almost a year ago and I ended up in the hospital on his birthday which was quite ironic. I will probably settle back down for a year. I will no doubt keep my eyes open for my next ride though
