Begin Press Release:

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame participating in The Quail Motorcycle Gathering

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame will be on location at The Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel, Calif., on May 14 to raise awareness of the Hall of Fame and the lasting contributions of its inductees.

“The Quail is one of the premier motorcycle events on the West Coast,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “The machines on display there are stunning, and the event perennially draws AMA Hall of Famers, motorcycling’s greatest ambassadors. This makes it a fitting location to honor their achievements and promote the mission of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.”

A new motorcycle award at The Quail this year will be the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Heritage Award. This award recognizes a motorcycle that best represents the contributions that AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers have made to the growth of motorcycling in America. The selection will be made by a committee of attending Hall of Famers.

In addition, the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame will have on display a bike from its own collection, Hall of Famer Wayne Rainey’s 1983 AMA Superbike Championship-winning Kawasaki GPz750. The GPz is one of the most significant motorcycles in AMA Superbike Championship history, representing not just the ascendance of one of America’s greatest racers of all time, but a milestone achievement for what was thought to be a technologically inferior motorcycle at the time.

During a special ceremony at The Quail, Dingman will present AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Craig Vetter with the prestigious AMA Dud Perkins Lifetime Achievement Award. The award acknowledges the highest level of service to the AMA in any area of activity, and its recipients are individuals whose contributions are nationally recognized. Vetter is well-known for his many contributions to motorcycle design, including the iconic Windjammer fairings of the 1970s, the Triumph X-75 Hurricane and the limited-edition Mystery Ship.

The Quail Motorcycle Gathering is held at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club. Tickets are available at*http://peninsula.ticketmob.com/event.cfm?cart&id=116815.

AMA staff will be on hand at The Quail to represent the Hall of Fame, provide AMA membership information and answer questions about other Hall of Fame activities, including AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, the country’s premier celebration of vintage motorcycles and the people who love them on July 8-10 in Lexington, Ohio.
