GoPro Helmet Mount

My sweet husband bought me the GoPro HD camera for my birthday but now I can't decide the best way to mount it to my helmet. I've seen several videos where you can see the helmet in the video. Is there any way to avoid this? Would those of you who own this wonderful gadget mind posting up photos of your lid with the camera mount so I can see how everyone else is mounting them?

I stick mine on my bike. Usually on the tank.

Edit: Ok uhh...I was going to post up a vid I took of me and my 250 with the camera mounted on the tank. It had music and everything. I have no idea where it went

I don't have a picture of my setup, but I mounted mine on the lower right hand side of the helmet chinbar. I can barely see the camera out the right side, but I can see if it's there or not.

I had to play with placement a lot to minimize the helmet intrusion into the video frame. Not able to fully get rid of the helmet in the vids, but this is the latest placement of where it is presently mounted.

If you want, I can take a pic of the setup later.

have fun... it's a great toy.

Thanks Flash & Kkim. I think I like the setup with it on the chin bar because if I turn my head you can see surrounding scenery. I was concerned that you would see the helmet in the video but that looks like a great location. I also like that you can see if the camera is still there. If it falls off you would at least have a chance of finding it. I can't wait to get it mounted and go for a ride.

BTW KKim - I'm jealous. I would love to have a dirtbike. I have never ridden one but they look like so much fun.

Lisa,

I have another mount on my street bike helmet (the one in the vid is a dual sport helmet) and with the Go Pro mounted in a similar location, the helmet cannot be seen in vids shot with that helmet.

The trick is finding a spot on the helmet where the curved mount that they give you will fit properly. Every helmet has a different curvature and finding a spot for that mount can be tricky.

here's some pics of the case mounted on the street bike helmet. notice the weird angle which the camera needs to be mounted to eliminate the helmet from the vids.

Did you have to buy that mount seperately? I don't think that one came in the kit I got.

Lisa,

I believe he used the "J" shaped mount, on the left in this picture, that should have been included with your camera.

The problem is finding a helmet with a flat enough area in the front to mount the base.

Correct I used the J type mount and a slightly modified curved adhesive do-dad.

I built up the mount with some two-part plastic to suit my helmet. It's real easy to do, you can look at the rest of the photos on flickr for more detail:

i have the chest strap mount and that seems to work pretty well. i have only tried it once, and i gotta tweak it a bit more, but overall, the view is pretty good.

it is a good alternative between mounting it on the bike and the helmet. it doesn't shake as much as attached to the bike since the body absorbs some of the vibration. it is also not affected by body movement as much as a helmet mount such as turning the head to look around.

of course, if you are in a full tuck, then all your camera will show is the top of your gas tank.

It is the same adhesive that is on the original GoPro mounts. 3M VHB 4991.

I ordered a sample from 3M. Took about 3 weeks to arrive but it's free and there's plenty of it.
