Why are photo applications so bloody expensive?
I have Adobe Photoshop 6.0 on my PC. I was thinking that it would be awesome to have it on my Macbook so I don't need to keep using the PC for photo editing/creating. So a while back I got 7.0.
I know, I know, I should have read the box better. It isn't supported with OS X 10.5+ YAY. So I can't use it (anyone have an older mac that wants my copy? I sell it to you for CHEAP). I decided to see what current items Adobe has out right now. The student/teacher edition is priced reasonably, but since I'm not enrolled anymore, I'd have to get the full copy. Yay for me, I need to spend an extra $400 for CS5. YAY. Any student want to buy it for me, not open it and ship it to me? I can't believe how expensive that is, then again, a company does need to make money somehow....

I have studied in graphic design / web design through classes, it will be my major. I can personally say that, in my experience the programs are worth every penny. I get a great deal of enjoyment out of creating digital art and it's also a strong passion of mine. You can download a free 30-day trial of photoshop CS5 here and I strongly recommend that you check out some of the tutorials on photoshoplady.com. The site has tons of tutorials and to be honest it helped me enhance my skill / experience a lot, even after years of experience in photoshop. I hope the free trial will hold you over long enough to get the real thing.

I looked up CS5 and the free trial is a 30 day version. I just need to get the cheaper version. I shall be patient.

Quick question, what are you looking to get out of your photo app? GIMP is a good open source option. I also used to use JASC Paint shop pro, which was better than photoshop IMO (now made by corel, so I don't know how it's changed)
But depending on what your needs are, something like lightroom or illustrator might be better suited for you. |

That Pixelmator looks interesting, but I do feel I need something with more power than that. I'll look into it more. Interesting though.

If you want photoshop quality results but without the price...there really is only on option in my opinion.
Corel PaintShopPro X2 Ultimate. I use it for all my photo editing. It will do anything photoshop will do with half the effort, and less time. It originally started as a paint program, but has progressed into a full fledged photo editing program as well. Its also fairly reasonably priced at around $99. If you look around you might be able to find a copy of it for around $60. Buy it in the box...and get a registered copy. |

I would download the demo for that, but it is only available for PC's.

My sister just got the student version of Adobe PS CS5 and installed it on my PC. I have no idea how to use it though.
