Barcelona MotoGP Post-Race Subscriber Notes: How To Win A Championship, Bastianini's Revolt, And KTM's Front-End Problem

Casey Stoner used to say that if you look after the wins, the championships look after themselves. He won two MotoGP titles, winning 10 of 18 races in 2007, and 10 of 17 in 2011, so his approach has some merit. But he was also on the podium 14 out of 18 times in 2007 and 16 out of 17 times in 2011. So the adage that championships are won on your worst days also applies.

What does that mean for the 2024 Barcelona MotoGP round? We had an object lesson in how championships are won and lost. Pecco Bagnaia put on a masterclass of measured riding and tire management to win Sunday's grand prix, with a comfortable lead over his main rival from last year and this year, Jorge Martin.

But Martin leaves Barcelona having extended his championship lead by 1 point, taking 26 points in sprint and Sunday races combined to Bagnaia's 25 points on a tough weekend for the Pramac Ducati rider, where he struggled in the sprint and got lucky with riders crashing out ahead of him. Including Pecco Bagnaia, who crashed out of the lead on the last lap.
